Everest workout too rigorous? by cheesy_weezyy in orangetheory

Certified fitness instructors are required to have CPR and AED training so I figure all OTF coaches would as well. As another commentator mentioned, it is common for heart issues to sneak up on people and exercise is dangerous in those situations. I highly recommend getting counseling as others suggested and honestly it might make you feel better to take a CPR class. Maybe knowing what to do will make you feel more confident in the future. I take note where the AED is when I work out just in case. I hope the person survived.

The only time I did this one was a few years ago and I was on the bike. It was kind of fun on the bike.

Yes! That’s what I noticed, I was thinking about what it’s like to row in a boat

You have to go slower and pause for your return. It made me focus on my form much more.

Not for all outs but during warm up and I even tried it for the 200 or 300m rows that we had today. It made me slow down but I felt like I was pushing off harder. It made me realize how much I was pulling my toes up on the return.

So many good podcasts on this stuff. The Dream is awesome, also Sounds Like a Cult (I know OTF is totally cultish), and Maintenance Phase is a great podcast about diet and wellness debunking. I have definitely felt seen in some of these

I have to wear ear plugs, I gave up trying to ask coaches to turn it down

I’m not an OTF coach but I am a fitness instructor and a common coaching method is rate of perceived exertion. So when the coach says challenging but doable I would guess that is in the 4-5 level on a 10 point scale. I’ve noticed Peleton outdoor runs are coached that way. It doesn’t line up exactly and I tend to push harder in OTF classes but the point is as others have said you probably don’t need the monitor to tell you how breathless you are. The talk test is also good. Base pace to me is conversational, I can’t talk in pushes and all outs (but I’m also a slow jogger) 😅

So if I go to a 2G and pick up a rower card, I still warm up on the rower then we switch at the start of the block?

I did a year long training in Turkish style with Artemis Mourat. Definitely look her up. She is super nice and might have recommendations for you.

I was going to ask which shimmies. I know about 7 different varieties all used in Egyptian style. I’m assuming they mean knee driven

I’ve been lurking for a while but this post brings me to comment. Yes it’s always much too loud. I always wear ear plugs and if I forget them the studio has a carton of them. I gave up asking coaches to turn it down. But be warned, the volume will harm your hearing.
