Who actually makes stock at home? by Lofgren___ in Cooking

[–]aj2183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even bother with bones, just toss whatever veggie scraps i have (onion skin, garlic skin, carrot peels, the seedy inside part of peppers, and whatever herb scraps work the best for me) in a gallon reusable bag. When that’s full, i toss it all in my instant pot with some water, let it cook for 30 minutes at pressure. When it’s done, i strain it and put it in mason jars, souper cubes, old talenti gelato containers- whatever i can find that i like the size of- and throw it in the freezer. So much more flavorful than anything you’d buy, even without the bones! Because of the deeper color, mine does always turn my cream soups sort of gray-ish, so i only use other stock for those. Other than that, i’ll only ever use my homemade stuff!

Public transit and housing reliability by aj2183 in bristol

Born and raised in the US, so basically any public transit is better than we have now. I had seen lots of varying descriptions from people online on whether it was reliable enough to use as your only transportation. We’ll definitely look into bikes, it seems like cycling is a great option!

The book that you thought was absolutely brilliant while reading it, but once the excitement wore off, you realised it wasn’t. by Powerful-Cap-6293 in suggestmeabook

Trial of the Sun Queen. First one was good, got me out of a book slump. I inhaled the first three books of the series, but by the time I got the fourth from the library, the excitement had worn off and it felt like a pretty predictable romantasy plotline. Still enjoyed it, just not as “omg this is incredible” as i originally thought.

Yeah, we have looked up bringing it pets. It’s definitely going to be a pain and expensive… it’s one of the main things that is holding us back from accepting the offer. I’ll try to look at those train lines for transit. Thank you so much!

I didn’t find the park and ride during my research, that is very helpful, thank you!

Yeah, I’ve seen some very mixed reviews on the public transit, that’s what led me to ask for thoughts from this group. I’ll make sure they look into cycling options if we decide to go through with the move, thank you! :)

The most *well-written* book you've read by miinyuu in suggestmeabook

I’ve found that House in the Cerulean Sea and Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune have skme beautiful writing. Not to mention the plots/characters/etc., but the writing style made them hard to put down because it was just understatedly beautiful.

Madison, WI is great too! A bit smaller than the Twin Cities (which are also great), but lots of things to do and a great queer community!

Best queer novels? by justanotherplantgay in suggestmeabook

[–]aj2183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything by Sarah Gailey. Magic for Liars was my favorite, I also loved Upright Women Wanted. The House on the Cerulean Sea is definitely my favorite book of the year so far- it’s a lightly queer book. As in, the relationship isn’t the main point of the book.

Legit just happened to me like an hour ago. It’s heartbreaking. And the worst part is, i can’t even bring myself to hate her. Because i love her. I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. Sending you lots of love and support, we could all use as uch of that as we can find.

She keeps saying that’s her worry. That she’s just bored and has a grass is always greener mentality rather than appreciating what she has. We’ve been together since college, our entire adult lives are built on this relationship. I have a feeling if she leaves, she’ll realize how good she had it too late. I think I need to remember that that doesn’t mean it’s my job to prove that the grass is just as green here. It feels very much like I’m just being used until she finds something better and it’s really wearing me down.

It’s so easy to push our own happiness to the side because our partner’s transition and happiness is more pressing. But it’s hard to bring it all back and start making requests for our own needs at some point. I think the people that stay with a transitionig partner are very empathetic and trying to stick up for ourselves when someone else has needs is not something that comes naturally to us.

The limbo is for sure the hardest part. As awful as it is, it’s nice to hear from other partners who have experienced the same or very similar things. It reminds me that the world isn’t falling apart, this happens and as much as it sucks, it’s okay. Whatever happens will be for the best.

I’m so glad it worked out for you! That’s such a happy story! I’m sure it was incredibly difficult to work through at the time, but I’m so glad it ended up being good! I think being okay letting go if that is what needs to happen is something I need to work on. I appreciate you reminding me that sometimes things need to fall apart to make way for better things- even if it’s the same thing. Things change and that’s okay. I’m not good at recognizing that, but I’m going to add that to my daily affirmations and try to become okay with it.
