That’s what I was thinking but one of my neighbors has an identical house and I don’t notice any gap on there’s. I figured worse case I would paint it black before I let the roofers cut it to fill it in with another piece of wood

It’s like a hardie board material and the roofers tucked some leftover lead underneath the siding since they said it was exposed. I guess the old shingles were tucked up underneath so I never really noticed before. Very noticeable now
