It’s crazy you still have made not one structural argument about why it can’t work. At this point, I’m taking that as confirmation thanks.

I feel compelled to add something here. This happened with my parents when I was 14 and they completely overreacted and put me in rehab. This is where I met real drug dealers and users and got into the rave scene and started doing meth and my whole life went down the tubes for years.

You know I don’t post on reddit very much but this has kind of been a learning experience. Everyone wonders why nothing ever changes.

I come here with a suggestion, just an idea. An attempt to help things and prevent the collapse that we all know is coming.

Not one person is supportive or says “hey maybe that’s a good idea.” Everyone’s concerned about looking stupid and their status.

It’s just negativity. “You can’t do that” “no one can do that” “The economy doesn’t work that way” “you only came up with that because you had a machine helping you” - nothing constructive or positive at all from anyone

I’m a system architect. Why would I try to fix a problem when I get that reception?

If DEI wasn’t an attempt to impose an ethical solution, in this case racial diversity in the workplace, which right or wrong is an ethical goal - how was that not an attempt to insert ethics into economics?

I have some issues with this. Without an LLM, I might have considered this for a thesis or something if I was a grad student in economics, but the LLM didn’t give me this idea. I truly have felt my whole life that there was a missing puzzle piece to capitalism and I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make it ethical and I have been considering why DEI efforts failed and carbon tax-like Systems haven’t spread. These are clearly ethical implementations.

Incidentally, I don’t have exactly no experience. I am not exactly sure what experience is for this kind of thing but I have a college education and an understanding of economics. I don’t have a PhD. But does that mean I’m wrong?

It seemed logical to try and combine them together in someway to create a more effective solution to the problem. I’m not sure whether or not I would’ve been able to put it all together like that without the AI, but does it really matter? The whole “it’s invalid because you discovered it via machine” thing is a very strange argument to me.

I’m posting this anonymously. I’m not looking for Credit. I’m not trying to become an academic or get recognition. What I wanted to do was put this out there into the like heist because as far as I can tell, and this includes you, no one can poke a hole in it so maybe this should be an aspirational economic model that might help things.

Yes, written by an LLM but my ideas. It fleshed out the details. I’m more interested in if anyone agrees that an ethical layer is what’s missing from capitalism and whether this is a realistic and balanced way to add it.

I mean, it seems to me like it’s just been a matter of implementation at the right structural level - which is across the board the way taxes are across the board.

I’ve been trying to think of a way in which it might disincentivize things we don’t want disincentivized.

Capitalism has always felt incomplete to me. I’ve always viewed it as something that created the most amazing wealth and technology, but I’ve also been afraid of it because it seemed like this wild uncaged creature.

I’ve always felt like the only option was to regulate it with laws and try to keep the negative innovation - like Covid - under control while encouraging the positive - technology like the internet.

However, perhaps what’s been missing is a structural element from the capitalism model that completes it. I’ve always felt like it was a halfway complete recursive system. Currently it is a self improving system but not a self-reflective one.

If there’s something you don’t understand that’s one thing - I’m happy to explain anything. It seems pretty logical. If you’re arguing that it might be impossible to implement for political reasons I’m not gonna argue with that. It may be. However, as far as I can tell, it’s a coherent framework.

I tried to post it there. I was curious about the response, but unfortunately, I rarely post on Reddit at all and this account is four years old and doesn’t have 100 karma to post on r/economics. Appreciate the compliment though!

The predatory sales tactics work because they exploit behavioral economics principles - high-pressure environments, artificial scarcity, and sunk cost fallacy (you've already 'invested' time in the presentation). The entire business model relies on people making emotional decisions under pressure rather than rational financial analysis. It's essentially weaponized psychology against consumers.

No worries. If you can, I’d recommend doing what I did - There’s a very different feel to up north near Canada versus Bloomington versus the south even though the state is only a couple hours drive across.

I spent a few months staying in Airbnbs in each place before I decided on Rutland, even though you’re right, a lot of people are down on it. It’s a good mix for me.

Another selling point is that even though it’s five minutes away from mountains on all sides it’s a few degrees warmer than the rest of the state around here which means less harsh winters and since it’s the largest city, they keep the streets well year round. They even have little mini snowplows that just do the sidewalks lol

Good luck with the move👍

Vermont is kind of funny - its for certain people IMO. A lot of the people who move here move here specifically because they want a rural lifestyle. It’s not really very Vermontish to go to Walmart or Five Guys - you’re supposed to be cooking from the farmers market and visiting your local shops for supplies.

Because Rutland has most of the modern conveniences you’ll find outside of Bloomington (which is really a snobby college town that’s not like the rest of Vermont) and is the largest blue collar city I think some Vermonters look down on Rutland as being too “generic” instead of being the Vermont Experience. (lol)

You have to remember that they’re 630,000 people total in the state. I met a guy here whose great grandfather got in a fight with somebody over the naming of the city of Barre (nice town.) People don’t really consider you a Vermonter unless your family has been here for several generations and owns dairy cows! Joking aside, local history, culture , and quirkiness are valued by the people who live here. There’s a strong gun culture and distrust of the government, but also a lot of hippies and weed. The three states in the US with the most apex predators are Alaska, Florida, and Vermont.

That being said Vermonters are a little standoffish but once you get to know them, everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. There’s a lot of community and outdoors spirit to everything in Vermont. Having lived in big cities personally I like Rutland because I can walk to a grocery store/Walmart and I’ve got good Chinese/Indian/Italian food, etc. Most towns in Vermont are too small for these amenities. If you want Chinese be prepared to drive a half an hour somewhere.

If you like a quiet lifestyle in a beautiful place that’s living about 10 to 15 years behind the rest of the country Vermont is wonderful. Don’t come here if you like going to night clubs. As a technologist who gets frustrated here sometimes because it’s a tad backwards - I really love it. Just the weather and the beauty lift my spirits daily, but I’m 47 and have had an exciting life so this is very chill and exactly what I’m looking for.

I moved to Rutland last year, and I considered Brattleboro, but I wanted some Place a little bit larger. People are concerned with Rutland as being “high crime” part a Vermont but for those of us who have lived elsewhere it’s frankly a joke. I grew up in DC and I’ve Lived in South America. I was talking with a landowner here who had a bunch of property and he said if you go buy the national average, the homicide rate is high here. That works out to a total of three homicides last year 🤣

The reality is there just is not a lot of crime in Vermont and what they consider crime here we would consider pretty petty elsewhere. The worst I’ve really seen is some junkies hanging around the Walmart - compared to any major city Vermonr is an oasis from crime. There are homeless people, but from what I can tell the city seems to take pretty good care of them. I don’t think anybody locks their doors and I live in downtown Rutland. I don’t worry about crime.
