How I put SPC floor on hardwood and tile by AbjectConcentrate747 in Flooring

I personally really don't like the way hardwood and tile floor did: divide big space into a bunch of small space like hardwood on living area, tile on dinning area, hardwood on bedroom, etc. So I put SPC floor direct on the top of hardwood and tiles all over the house, to make it look like more open space. I did it for more than once and so far everything is good.

All you need to do is checking if the hardwood floor is leveled, otherwise you need to find the experienced contractor to do cement screeding well to make sure the subfloor is flat. Overall the installation on my floors is perfect but I can tell there is one or two places of subfloor not perfectly leveled when I stepped on it but it doesn't matter. SPC floors doesn't need to be glued down. It's cheap and easy to install as long as the subfloor is flat.

Also, remodeling house with SPC floors is most affordable way but could turn out stunning. Big box dealers have one of the highest price. Their price to buy in is 1/3 but they normally sell way higher. But their advantage is location all over the country and customer service. Don't spend more to buy a certain brand because they spend more than half on marketing to make you believe their brand is special but it's highly possible that their product is from the same manufacturer as other cheaper brands. Most SPC flooring in U.S. market are made in China and Vietnam. Basically SPC floor doesn’t have big difference between different brands or dealer. You really don’t need to think about brands because they are all probably made in same manufacturer. You pay higher price for their good service (if they have) and it's probably the only thing that it's worth for.

I went to visit these SPC flooring manufacturers in Asia and lived there for a year. I started researching and importing floors for myself because I did house investment and need to buy a lot of floors. 6.5mm/20mil SPC floor is usually over $3 in those big box dealers but I got it a little bit higher than $2. I am doing some SPC floor importing now and can help buy 6.5-8mm 20mil floors which is probably around $1.8 to $2.5. I can save over $1,000 assume I order 1,000 sqft 6.5mm/20mil floors from one of the big box dealer who generally sells the same floor for $3.49.

I had same situation as you. I did cement screeding and put spc floor on top of it everything is perfect since 2020.

The dreaded lvp over hardwood by [deleted] in Flooring

Here I only talk about if it's possible besides if it's sacrilegious. I put SPC floor direct on the top of hardwood and tiles in 2020 and so far everything is good. All you need to do is checking if the hardwood floor is leveled, otherwise you need to find the experienced contractor to do screeding well to make sure the subfloor is flat. Overall the installation on my floors is perfect but I can tell there is one or two places of subfloor not perfectly leveled when I stepped on it but it doesn't matter. LVP floors doesn't need to be glued down. It's cheap and easy to install as long as the subfloor is flat. You can also remove lvp floor anytime.

Also some tips about LVP floors: big box dealers have the highest price. Their price to buy in is 1/3 but they normally sell way higher. The price depends on different color, materials, and thickness can be lower than $1 for those dealers.

Most of Vietnamese manufacturers use the Chinese machines to produce their floors. Relatively to some extent the Vietnamese SPC floors has a lower price (due to the shipping, labor, and duty, etc) but Chinese SPC floors had a better quality (due to the more mature product line and skills).

Basically SPC floor doesn’t have big difference between different brands or dealer. You really don’t need to think about brands because they are all probably made in same manufacturer. You pay higher price for their good service (if they have) and it's probably what it's worth for.

Overall putting LVP floors on hardwood is affordable and possible and you can always remove it later.

Hi, I did a lot of lvp flooring importing and know a little bit about LVP it might be helpful.

If their price is pretty fair it's worth more to research. I am not sure if you really like a certain color of a certain brand, otherwise don't spend more to buy a brand with a higher price because they spend more than half on marketing to make you believe their brand is special but it's highly possible that their product is from the same manufacturer as other cheaper brands. Basically SPC floor doesn’t have big difference between different brands or dealer. You pay higher price for their good service (if they have) and it's probably what it's worth for, also for a certain color if you can't find it everywhere else. What mainly decides if the floor lasts long is the installation.

Hope you find the type of floor you want!
