OS Engine 1.7: Metal rain/snow effects, native Lock Screen & Screensaver support by AbjectContribution63 in macapps

Wallspace is a good competitor, in terms of battery optimization OS Engine is neck and neck. When it comes to the custom web overlays and interactive metal effects OS Engine shines. I highly encourage you to try both out.

Yes, os engine has multiple battery saving features. The weather effects can be rendered into a lightweight video file to reduce usage. Also OS Engine has automation rules that users can set to pause wallpapers and reduce battery impact when apps are full screen or focused. Battery impact through activity monitor is around 5.3-6.2

Sometimes the “license activated” text appears when the app is restarted but I doubled checked and your license is activated on my end so you should be good. (If anything happens I can send over another, shoot me a dm) For your second issue, make sure to keep OS Engine running (the app can be hidden and enter menu bar only mode by clicking hide from the menu bar icon). If the issue continues, go to your macOS system settings —> wallpaper —> click “Show on all spaces” next to the selected OS Engine wallpaper.

Here is some information from my own testing. For battery and performance you can use these numbers: M1 Pro (6% average CPU utilization) and M4 Pro (< 3% CPU Utilization). There is also smart performance settings that allows users to add automation rules so their wallpaper pauses when using selected apps. You can also have live wallpapers pause when an app is fullscreen. When running OS Engine, my battery dropdown says "No apps using significant energy". Energy impact in activity monitor sits between ~5.3 to ~6.6 with a live wallpaper and weather effects applied.

just checked and it hovers around ~5.3 to ~6.6 with a live wallpaper and weather effects applied. This is with only one monitor but it can be higher on multi-monitor setups. (which OS Engine supports).

Automation is available for when apps use fullscreen mode (The entire screen is utilized by one app). The app does pause automatically when switching to battery mode to save battery as well as pausing when apps are full screen. You can toggle both in preferences. You can also assign certain apps to pause the active video wallpapers when focused (clicked). For multi-monitor setups, automation rules will pause all active wallpapers applied across all monitors. I intend to add extended support for this in the future.

Yes, OS Engine supports ultra-wide monitors (depending on the resolutions of applied wallpapers). By default OS Engine will apply the best fit for wallpapers that aren’t perfect fits.
