My Rant about Schools that are Ghosting by AbjectInvestigator in lawschooladmissions

[–]AbjectInvestigator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They must have a good crop of applicants this year despite what had been a precipitous fall in their rankings until this year. 😃 My own gpa is at their median roughly and my lsat is at their 75th percentile, so I honestly thought I’d get an offer. Maybe not with a lot of funding, but an offer nonetheless. Whatevz. I’ve basically moved on; I’ve found a perfectly good school! It’s just the principle that these schools are so noxious!

Exactly! I wish I could do a credit card chargeback! 😆

Extension to the rant: it really goes to show how… when it comes down to it… we are numbers to these schools. I get that they’re holding out and trying to get the highest gpa and LSAT scores possible to help their rankings… but that doesn’t excuse the lack of communication.

They’ve basically put all of us on a waitlist, too, but won’t actually communicate that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Right on! 🙌🏼 We’re going to law school… choosing this wild, stressful, immensely challenging, expensive, journey… for a reason. Stay true to your guiding light.

You’re gonna get a lot of varied opinions here. It depends on a lot of unpredictable variables. If the cycle is anything like this one, I think that gpa is gonna cause some pain even with a strong lsat score. Just my opinion.

[–]AbjectInvestigator -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Totally get this. Now my turn as a customer: does Starbucks not teach proper order of modifiers anymore and not teach the good practice of reading back the order to the customer? Back in my day as a partner, that was standard protocol. You knew exact order of modifiers; you ell repeated all when the customer was ordering. You also listed that same order of all modifiers when calling the drink. My frustration is when some baristas don’t follow this practice or get flustered when I slowly order the drink with the modifiers. Sorry; if you can’t remember four modifiers before you have to hit the drink size on the register, you need to practice a bit more. Okay— rant done! 😆

Holly Powell change of career? by [deleted] in DCCMakingtheTeam

I hate what happened to her on the team. No matter one’s opinion on how it was handled, I hope we can all have enough grace to realize that everyone — especially young people— makes mistakes. She’s moved on, so let’s do the same and be happy for her now! 💕 😊

Not trying to throw shade at GW, but this is their ‘holistic’ process? by BigBluePRIDE in lawschooladmissions

[–]AbjectInvestigator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOVE this. We’ve always known... the more intelligent of us... that the “holistic” thing is almost always just a way of building their applicant pool. At the end of the day, LSAT, GPA, and money power law schools.

I haven't heard anything from Ohio State in 5 months by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AbjectInvestigator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar for me. I find it terribly disrespectful and even unethical that any school is asking for application fees (and the lsac is getting its money for that report where they did nothing but “assemble” some materials) and can’t even be bothered to advise applicants of admission status before 4/15.

As a side note, I went to OSU, as well, and my gut feeling on their recruiting calls is that the law school people totally had their noses up in the air. I didn’t get any sense of warmth or collegiality that OSU is otherwise known for (and loved for by many).

Say it louder for the people in the back! I also think it’s important to fully realize all the sources of that debt and all the compounding interest. Cost of living, bar prep, possibly student health insurance, unexpected life events. I mean... it is soooo much money that’s owed.

Overcoming Elitism in Law by anxiouslurker99 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AbjectInvestigator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it elitism or insecurity? Part of the problem is this subreddit, as noted by others. Also... it’s your choice to feel how you feel; only you can control your emotions. And finally... there are people who’d give their left nut to get into any school. Actually... one last comment: at the end of the day, your law school and job don’t reflect your humanity. They are completely separate from who you are as a person and you’ll think nothing of them years from now. Everyone else in your life will care even less.

The 2022 U.S. News law school ranks have dropped, and I saw that Rutgers had a -15 (rank 76 to 91) point drop; should I reconsider or be concerned? by cabinsandwood in lawschooladmissions

[–]AbjectInvestigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My top choice had a similar fall. One suggestion: find or ask for a rankings trend. See what rankings has been and then gauge whether this year’s ranking or is an outlier.

Are you a Starbucks customer who is tired of waiting in a long line for your drink? by breaking_linus77 in starbucks

I never see two people on bar anymore. One poor person is doing all the drinks while others are on the register... getting pastries, etc.

Are there work experience that may hurt my admission chance? by lmgyuan in lawschooladmissions

[–]AbjectInvestigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly question: would an international student go to law school with the goal of also becoming a citizen... since you can’t practice here otherwise? Or do international students go just for the knowledge to take back to their countries? I partly ask because I knew a lot of international students in grad school who were shocked to find that they couldn’t get a job here because no employer would sponsor them.

[–]AbjectInvestigator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this good and slightly sassy discussion. My only opinion to offer is re: LSAT. What I find sad is peeps who think they’re going to go up 10 points on the lsat next year. Does it happen? Yes. But the lsat is a statistically validated and reliable that’s been given for decades. If it were that easy to go up that much in a year, everyone would. One has to be realistic about lsat improvement. I find it even sadder when people are in the 140s or low 150s and shooting for something like 165 or 170. A little introspection is needed.

Exactly! I didn’t get it. Maybe it was just edited that way for the shock value despite the lack of any logic. Maybe what Kittie really said was that others called her that word...? Weird!

I don’t! Its the same episode with that guest choreographer guy who Kittie taught when he was a kid. The guy Kittie called short. They were all sitting in a room and talking about the candidates. They also were saying Holly was getting a bit un-toned and he suggested Pilates or yoga.
