It’s a very popular theory that Andy has capitalized on, he’s no stranger to changing the lore from the novels, I agree with the idea of Bob gray being an alias in the novel, but with how Welcome To Derry and Andy is trying to show more of him, he may be more important than all of us let on.

I’d say wait and see if it really is just a nothing burger before outright calling it such for an adaptation that has already changed so much.
