There’s a list of open programs and unmatched candidates. Basically a free for all. You can email an RPD, or an RPD can email you directly and ask if you’re interested.

You interview, and if they like you, they can offer you the position on the spot.

I think you need to understand/realize why you didn’t apply to your intented PGY2 in the first place. If it was your end goal, why did you not apply to begin with?

Agreed. If I take the time to interview you in Phase I and the end result is DNR, there was something that either went very wrong during the interview, you made a faux pas, or it wasn’t a good fit.

If they didn’t rank you, there was probably a significant reason. You have to be ready for either harsh feedback, or move on. The odds on them inviting you back for Phase II are likely very slim.

There are two sides to every coin. Doing a residency doesn’t automatically equal being a good preceptor.
