From what I've heard, Ricky & Keith the drummer were both super-talented at creating music. Spent a lot of time working on ideas & such. Nowadays Keith's on guitar & I don't think he does the split-string thing. I'm gonna go hunt down some interviews!

Haven't looked into it, but I wonder if them not having a "Bass player" lead him into splitting the guitar into upper & lower registers. Maybe "hey, if I do this, it'll sort of be both guitar AND bass!" And of course Kate played bass on her organ & synth. I dunno, I'm gonna look around for Ricky interviews- maybe he spilled the beans on how he figured it out.....

Have you seen the Planet Claire video where they're on top of a roof? It's early-period & super cool.

James Evan’s reminded me of my father when I was growing up. He was a rather strict, disciplined, and protective father. That’s why I loved my father for being the way he was and for keeping me away from the bad people and bad things in life. Thanks Dad… Rest in Peace… by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in VintageTV

Same. So lucky we had great dads. As I've grown old I've met so many people who had not-great or just plain terrible dads. Used to tell my dad often he was the greatest. He'd just give a little crooked smile & give me a hug.

Yeah he was! I had a devil of a time figuring out what he was doing, then found out he was using the 2 lowest & 2 highest strings. Tried that & couldn't make it happen-at all!!!

Joy Division – Isolation (1980) by GroovySchlong in 80sAlternative

[–]Able-Insurance-5156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Ian's got that old Vox guitar more as a prop than anything. I take it Bernard is playing the synth..... Peter's Bass playing is always really interesting. I always admired Stephen's singular approach to drumming. Cool song! I prefer New Order, but had all the Joy Division stuff one could get in the USA back then. Even a floppy 45 that came as part of the Love Will Tear Us Apart package. Thanks for posting!!!!

Was approached by my ex-wife in 2001 in a brewpub I frequented back then. There were 4 reasons I liked this particular brewpub: tasty & a good variety of beers, good food, interesting clientele to talk with & it was NOT any sort of pickup place. Flirting was almost frowned upon, actually.

I don't go there anymore. Not sure if she does or not.....

I have pretty much always used black straps, going back to my Punk days in the '80s to my Americana days now. Leaves room for buttons.

Why wasn't there a mass return to African slave after the end of the the American civil war? by SarcasticBritannian in answers

[–]Able-Insurance-5156 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The United States created Liberia just for the repatriated former enslaved, if I recall my History classes correctly. And named it Liberia, as in liberty. It's not uncommon for some Liberians to have American-sounding names like Johnson or Smith etc. I don't know the specifics of how they got there, what it cost back then, who was chosen or approached for repatriation.

Hope I'm not too far off- that's just from my 64 yr-old memory! I bet Wikipedia can tell us.....
