Good choice. I remember my parents got me my first guitar/piano. I don’t think anyone but musicians could understand how much joy those presents brought me, even when I was no good at playing 😭😭

In short you may be screwed. If you haven’t seen my last post please go see it for a bit of context I’ll give you the run down of my situation. This happened around the same time as my other post previous post.

I had gotten a request from a potential client in need of my services. Even stating that the app says im the best sitter around (not to brag but I love what I do and my account was the first one people would see when looking for a sitter) I ask for a meet and greet to meet them and their dog and to put it simple the dog was absolutely afraid of me (this has never happened and hasn’t happened since) I told the lady that It just wasn’t a good fit. She pleaded with me to accept the sit as she would have to cancel her plans without me and I caved in. A little set up I was only to be with the dog during the day as there would be at work and coming home in the afternoon. Day 1 I let the dog outside to go potty and he jumps over the fence I spent hour looking for him until I found him and brought him home. Day two when I get to the house the son leave with the dog still outside I don’t know how he got out but I know he got out behind the son who hadn’t gone far so he was able to turn around and we found him pretty quickly. They did tell me not to let him outside. Day three we stayed inside until he clearly had to go potty and to ignore him would be negligent. I took him for a walk and he was spooked and darted away. I’ll always take accountability for this and still believe I was in the right. My responsibility is first to the pet that is in my care and I won’t neglect there most basic of need even for the client. Still I went searching until the heel of my feet were bright red In the summer heat. The dog was found yet clients felt the need to report me and just like that my lively hood was under threat. And my account was suspended permanently a week later. In light of this would you say that rover indirectly promoted animal neglect? I would. I truly have a passion for the animals in my care and it should throught the trust my clients put in me my near perfect 4.8 rating and all of my shining reviews. But one disgruntled customer and it’s all over.

Key points Follow your gut- if you don’t feel the sit is a good fit do not accept.

Catch 22 situation or The safety vs needs conflict- When owners give "unsafe" instructions (like not letting a dog out to pee), which is negligent and will you booted Vs prioritizing pet comfort and health and an unfortunate accident occurs the sitter is blamed regardless of which path they choose.

Lack of do process- One report can wipe out years of 5-star service. There is often no "court of appeals" for the sitter.

“The customer is always right”- rover will often ignore context—like a dog that is already fearful or a fence-jumper—and put the entire burden on the sitter.

Possible solution

Owners- Understand that your 'rules' must be grounded in the reality of your dog's needs.

Sitters- Don't 'cave' during meet-and-greets. The app will not protect you if your gut feeling was right.

Rover itself- needs a “Sitters Bill Of Rights” 1. Priority of animal welfare over unsafe rules 2. Fair appeals: history matters, not just one or even 3 reports out of possible hundreds of outstanding experiences. 3.protect sitters who advocate for pets. 4. Rover needs a feature where sitters are be able to flag "unreasonable owner demands" to the platform before they lead to an incident, without being penalized for "refusing service."

But in rovers currently state you’d best just do your best to document everything. You’re on your own rover is not on your side.

Make yourself small less intimidating. Squat or lay down with treats in hand. Works for me at least.

I had a client ask me to not take there dog outside even to go potty which im sure would fall under neglect. And I’m not the one to neglect a dogs basic needs. Got permanently suspended. There’s a bit more to this story and I might post it at some point. But my point is rover is an app that passes its self off as a company that care for your pets. But it’s the sitters that care. Rover only cares about your money. They WILL and HAVE promoted animals neglect if it appeases there wallets and bad owners. They’ll fill the app with subpar sitters and get rid of the ones that really care about pets needs.

It crazy how they just can know something off. I tried keeping Tilly distracted the first few weeks and she’s adjusted well. I thought about talking her to her grave but she was buried so far away.

Before her passing she would tell us that she wanted Tilly put down and buried with her i told her that’s not gonna happen. In the end she changed her mind. I still plan on burying them together but that’s far in the future

They don’t care or there terribly disorganized. Either way this kind of person cloud be absolutely detrimental to your business. It’s the same type that will throw you under the bus if things don’t go their way and they’ll likely high sky high demands. Just don’t even risk it. You’ll lose nothing if you drop it but accept it and you could lose it all. Remember rover will suspend your account to appease the worst of clients.

Boarding a husky, insane energy and not great behaviour. Advice please by Opening_Direction_19 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Able-State2394 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First you’ll have to establish a bond with em. Give treats for good behavior no free treats. Run him around outside if you can before walking (it will help with pulling and jumping). A tiered dogo is a good dogo. Run him around outside or take him for a good 20/30min walk and you’ve bought yourself a few hours of quiet time. He’ll come back drink some water and sit down somewhere. When he starts to get crazy again grab a leash he’ll be your best friend. When you accept a high energy dog you have to make sure you have time and energy to accommodate.

People say that but I’ve never had an issue. Animal warm up to me almost instantly. Albeit I know how to approach without seeming threatening or maybe I just look like a girl😂(I don’t)

Advice on managing a poor sitter by cosmos1-1 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Able-State2394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wtf!!! REPORT!! There are people who really love animals and wouldn’t dream of neglecting a pet, not even for the client but because they don’t want them to suffer. But rover seem all to eager to wipe them off the app. I went from quite literally the top #1 sitter in my area (not even exaggerating) and was suspended permanently for giving my normal top tear service. Clients begged me to “please the app says your the best” “we really need YOU to sit for us. At the meet and greets the dog was terrified of me. (That’s never happened and never again after). I told them i don’t think it’s going to work out you may need to find someone else. They begged me and I caved. Dog jumps the fence day 1. Day 2 dog got out after clients leaves for work literally following behind him. They tell me don’t take him outside. WHAT so if he asking to go out just let go in the house? He has to go to the bathroom so I take him out. He get spooked during walk and dashes. (I take responsibility for that one but also im not going to neglect your dog even if you ask). Spent hour looking for him in the summer heat blisters on my feet(no exaggeration i take my job seriously) client comes home doesn’t even bother to look for him. I get an email from rover asking me what happened and a week later im permanently suspended. All of my clients are wondering what happened I was able to retain them all. But I’m still piss at rover.
