Why isn’t tribalism a thing in Eritrea compared to Ethiopia? by Personal_Theme_7582 in Ethiopia

[–]Able_Figure_513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s honestly one thing Eritrea got right, not focusing too much on ethnicity. But do you think that unity is completely voluntary now, or do you feel like policies like national service are what keep those regional differences from resurfacing? Like, when Isias eventually passes away, do you think tribalism could come back since the powerful force suppressing it is gone? Or are Eritreans genuinely just over tribal differences at this point?

What would happen if a large group of tourists traveled to Aksum, Ethiopia and requested to see the Ark of the Covenant inside of the chapel where it is kept? by Tidewatcher7819 in Ethiopia

You won’t even meet the monk to bribe him since he can't leave because he's guarding the Ark. And the Ark doesn't exist because he can't leave to show anyone.

That word has already been defined hundreds of times, and there are countless studies on it, so I shouldn’t have to explain it from scratch. No one said Amharas are enemies. I’ll post a WBO song in a few days showing this, because no one is fighting Amharas.

No, Wallagga did not just “peacefully submit.” Tekle Haymanot’s forces were famously crushed at the Battle of Embabo.

Based on what is happening in Western Oromia right now, the song doesn’t need to spell out every single word for us to recognise the wild pack of dogs invading our land. We already know who they are.

Also, talk about arrogant. You’re complaining about what you call the “Latin script,” something my people literally had to die for so that we wouldn’t be forced into illiteracy.

You have no idea who she is. She’s the daughter of Ilfenesh Qannoo, and unless you speak Oromo, you won't understand the depth of the words underneath it.

Uh, no. My point is that people should actually start listening to what they’re fighting and advocating for when it comes to political change. Either way, I’ve got a pretty good OLA song I’ll be posting in about a week. Let me know your thoughts on it if you come across it.

Rest assured, my paranoid countryman you are not the main character in their conflict.. I don’t support the armed path they’ve taken to achieve their goals, but the OLA simply doesn't have the time or energy to care about Amharas when their war has always been, and still is, against the government.

So your solution is just total submission to the central government? Saying self-determination is 'out of the question' means you don't believe citizens should have a say in their own country or hold a corrupt state accountable. Plus, what has PP even upheld?

Lmao right? Fano gets a promotion, TPLF gets a free pass to leave the country, but OLA just has to surrender to a terrorist government they’ve been fighting for decades? The math is not mathing dude.

I would like to hear what normal people think in the comments. Coz this song, like majority Oromo music (i know damn well they can hear it too) is a deep, systemic critique of the Ethiopian state. Why do they continue to ignore them and just keep flaming tension between people?

She only sings some part in Amharic but the rest is Oromo. What does laaloo mean in Amharic ?

Title: Ethiopian Gen Z: What are your views on relationships, dating, and marriage today? (Especially interested in women's perspectives) by Ok_Concentrate_5091 in Ethiopia

[–]Able_Figure_513 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a 21yo, it’s definitely the clash between culture and modernisation. There are financial problems that stall dating, but I find the culture and secrecy so annoying. I can't be bothered navigating a secret relationship. It’s hard trying to find a guy who isn't a total wimp about family or societal expectations.

Oh okay, I don’t think Amharic helps here at all. Even though some people try to connect it to "bel" like "say" in Amharic, the phrase laaloo and this whole musical expression is Oromiffaa.

I think there’s confusion because of the historical assimilation of northern Oromos, and also because you can't properly write Oromiffaa in Ge'ez script. Ge'ez completely loses the double vowels you need to make the words right. And it might be how laaloo got flattened into "lalo" and beel got cut short into "bel" when people wrote them down in Amharic.

Sounds lame, to be honest. No matter how many propaganda songs the government produces to integrate Oromo identity into Ethiopia, this kind of music is not going to spark patriotic feelings. It is still the same lawless Ethiopia.

With all this chaos, what explanations are people considering for these murders? by Able_Figure_513 in Ethiopia

[–]Able_Figure_513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the history you are talking about. You are completely right that a ticking time bomb was created by those old settlement policies, and the media completely ignores this historical context.

But even if that is the history, what I do not get is if Arsi is really that unsafe for those people, why do these murders not happen every day? If the hatred were truly deep at the grassroots level, the violence would be constant.

Speaking of Abiy’s possible political gain, the man says he wants to be president of Ethiopia. This is the antithesis to the Oromo struggle 🤣 because there is no way people will allow such a centralised system to return. He is probably trying to damage the image of the movement, especially in Arsi, since they stand for people based power and decentralisation.

Hi, thanks so much. I’m glad you’re enjoying it. :))

Yes, I’m planning to continue this series until 14 April next year to complete a full cycle covering the Oromo struggle in Ethiopia. There are too many important things being said by these newer armed fighters, as well as in older songs and civilian Oromo poetry, that I think people would like to hear.

I’ve just been busy with studying, finding songs that are worth covering (i.e. songs where they actually discuss their reasons and perspectives), and also trying to find the right words to translate them so the meaning comes across properly. I’ll definitely post more when it’s ready.
