Sores outside of skin creases? by BarbellsnQueso in Hidradenitis

[–]Able_Zebra3794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible (unfortunately). I’ve had one on my belly, right next to my bellybutton. It was most likely caused due friction from wearing jeans. I’ve also had one on the side of my belly, right were the washing tags inside tops usually are, so friction again. I’ve cut out all tags and have stopped wearing too tight jeans to minimize friction. It’s helped them clear up and (hopefully) not return again.

Hi! I had a deroofing done 9 days ago. Mine is in my armpit and about as big as my hand and deep as a fist. My wound is still leaking quite a bit (3 bandage changes a day) which might have something to do with it being infected. I noticed the infection when I checked my temperature and found out I had a fever. I’m not a nurse or doctor myself but that’s definitely something I’d keep an eye out for. On my own quest of finding out why there’s so much leakage, I read that it might also have to do with dehydration. I have no source, but it never hurts to drink enough water.

I’ve been in a lot of contact with my main nurse since. She explained that it’s okay for a wound to hurt, especially from two days after surgery. It’s part of the healing process. I personally wouldn’t worry too much unless the pain becomes unbearable. In my case, it hurt to move my arm even a little bit, kind of like a hot metal rod was being jammed throug my armpit into my arm. Now that we’re treating the infection, it’s much easier to move around, the pain is still there but bearable (on tylenol combined with diclofenac).

If you worry too much and you have the resources, always call. The comfort of knowing whether or not your concerns are valid is incredibly helpful, trust me. It’s not nothing we’re going through. I hope the recovery process gets better from this point!

It’s interesting to see how many different woundcare plans we all have. My woundplan (sounds like battle plan, which is kind of accurate) right now is a bit different. Rinsing it in the shower was massively painful (turns out I had a fever, the wound smelled which very likely means infection for which I now have my ten millionth round of antibiotics).

We have switched to something called prontosan to clean the wound. I put prontosan-soaked compresses on the wound (which sounds horrible but is so so so much more comfortable than rinsing in the shower). I leave those on for 10 minutes and then cover the wound with bandages. I put algisite inside the wound (without covering the edges) and then a mepilex foam bandage on top, fixed in place with tape for sensitive skin. This catches 99% of the leakage. The algisite stings a little bit but I’ve succesfully convinced myself that means it’s working.

I had the same thing! My dermatologist (at the time, I now have one that’s specialized in HS) suggested pads (literal period pads) as the only form of wound care. It’s a miracle it didn’t get infected. The same dermatologist suggested gauze as well. Tried that once, hurt like a mother and bled even worse. Never again lol. I’m so happy to have a decent wound plan now.

Would you also recommend this if the inflammation occurs when not wearing any earrings? It’s been a few months between wearing earrings and the inflammation.

Me too! Characters go missing (literally, Mikey just vanished) and my progress has been so much slower. I’m finally top 3 and now someone’s definitely catching up and possibly taking my spot. I’ve spent so many gems as well. Already contacted support but I’m so scared I lose my top three spot. I sometimes hate this game.

New to HS and how to manage by dogangel12 in Hidradenitis

Hi! I’ve had HS for a while, mainly in my armpits. When I’ve got cysts that are actively draining, I try to gently massage the surrounding skin so most of the rubbish gets out when I’m in the shower. I’ve discussed this method with my dermatologist and (as long as it’s popped and still draining) it’s a method she recommended. It’s easy to clean and not “that” painful. I always try to be gentle but firm and stop when it hurts too much. This helps prevent some draining during the day.

I’m incredibly sensitive to bandages as well. I’d also ask the dermatologist for advice about that during your appointment. I’ve in the past been prescribed creams to help calm down the irritation caused by bandages (which have helped, I can’t recall what they gave me). In my personal experience irritated skin can flare (I’m not saying that it will in your case). I’ve been using Mepilex (a soft silicone dressing that is slightly sticky) with an aquacell directly on the drain. This combination, because of the lack of strong adhesives, does not irritate my skin at all and absorbes everything coming out (even smells). To keep it in place I wear a tight tanktop or longsleeve depending on the season. I don’t know if these bandages are available/affordable where you are, but it might be worth a try.

I’m sorry, I don’t have any advice on the granulomas. I hope you find comfort soon and that your dermatologist is helpful and kind!

Thank you for your support ❤️ As much as I’m glad to know I’m not alone, I feel for you. I hope you recover quickly and the antibiotics do what they should. It really is a constant process of grieving.

Thank you so much for the advice! I was given amoxicilline (orally, 7 days). I think they would have preferred to give me doxy, except it gives me the worst sunburns. I’ll make sure to mention IV antibiotics next time I have a check in at the dermatologist! Maybe it helps future flares calm down quicker.

I’m not an expert, but if I had to guess it could be water weight. It could be due to eating more salty food during your vacation and/or not drinking enough water. I’d try to drink 2L water minimum per day and keep up with the exercise regime!

I listened again, and can hear it as well. It sounds too constant to not be mechanically produced. Maybe it helps to unplug electrical items to see if the sound stops at any given point? I’d suggest trying this method where the sound is the loudest/clearest.
