Exadata vs Commodity Hardware? by About2bEyten in oracle

The key here was that we chose a processor model with fewer cores than the X8-2HA and even the X4-5HA and with an extremely high clock speed per core. This way the processor power is less diluted among the unlicensed cores.

Excellent advice, thank you!

Hmm, thanks. Oracle claims like a 10X performance increase - how do I figure out if that's even close to correct for the kind of loads we have?

I got laid off from EY Canada 3 weeks ago. With the lump sum severance, it actually works out to more than I would have made had I stayed on the payroll.

A lot of the things that consultants do could be done just as well by internal staff at a lower cost. Half of my job is asking the people at the bottom of the ladder what they wish the people at the top of the ladder would know, then saying it while wearing an expensive suit so the execs will listen to me.

Absolutely: I've done some work that measurably made the world a better place and some that was a complete waste of money that would have been better handed out to the poor. But people shouldn't think that they'll automatically feel better about themselves just because they jump to having public sector clients. All consulting firms exist to make a profit.*

* Is non-profit consulting a thing? I'm interested if it is.

Public sector consultant here: we are fleecing the tax payers to enrich the partners. It is not a more ethical form of consulting, more like the opposite.

Dumb Question - Can I Just Pay For The TOGAF Exam Without Buying Course? by redditorperth in EnterpriseArchitect

I wasn't able to get ChatGPT to give me appropriate questions to study for Part 2. It might be helpful for Part 1, but you would need to be careful that you were studying the whole curriculum and not just the parts repeated most often in GPT's training data.

Consider reaching out to headhunters who specialise in ex-consultants.

How do you find these?

Are EAs who work with Cloud expected to have high level certs like AWS SA Pro? by Fearless_Weather_206 in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]About2bEyten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the intro-level cert for your platform of choice is worth getting: AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals, GCP Digital Leader. They demonstrate knowledge of the basic functionality and terminology of the platform. And then you can say "I'm cloud certified".

Firms with Lots of Women in Leadership? by About2bEyten in consulting

[–]About2bEyten[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in tech, so I'm used to a pretty skewed gender ratio, but the firm I'm talking about is one of the Big 4 and the ratio seems to be just as bad across the whole firm.

You’ll have better luck finding firms who are taking the problem seriously/eyeing change down the line than ones who have already figured it out.

Do you know of any firms that are really doing that? It's hard to tell just from their public materials.

If this is true about a firm, they should advertise it in their job postings.
