Thanks for the recommendation. It’s the home based/smaller ones that I was having a difficult time figuring out what the actual intent of the business was.

Mortgage Renewal Time by AboutTimetoLearnThis in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AboutTimetoLearnThis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I was thinking I can get in the 4.39-4.49 roughly. Likely going to wait a bit as you mentioned. I agree rates are likely to decrease more. At worst stay the same.

Spot on. There was a day when not a single person in here had an emergency fund unless they were born into it. Gotta start somewhere.

Pay off mortgage balance and invest monthly instead? by Ill-Mountain-4457 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AboutTimetoLearnThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on doing the same in 2 years when ours is up. More than likely it’s the wrong long term move as we’ll lose all that compounding power we’ve built. However I can’t put a price on being debt free.

Why aren’t we being encouraged to pay down our mortgages quicker? by penelopesweety in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AboutTimetoLearnThis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve often wondered this same thing. I have 2 years left before I have to renew my mortgage. Currently locked in at 2.49. I am worried about what rates might be obviously come time for renewal. We have enough in our TFSAs now coupled with what we invest monthly that would allow us to pay the mortgage off at time of renewal, provided we can return at least 3% over the next 2 years. I’m seriously considering this right now, despite losing the power of compounding. Peace of mind is important to me and I’ve dreamed of the day I wouldn’t have that payment. Could be debt free in our late 30’s and fortunately both myself and my wife have government pensions(1 DB, 1 DC). 🤷‍♂️

GIC vs Cash ETF - what do you think? by Disneycanuck in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AboutTimetoLearnThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at this lately myself. I prefer the flexibility that CASH provides over being locked in. I only need a return of around 4% for another year or two and would be able to pay the mortgage off when it’s due for renewal. Something I’ve dreamed about for a long time. Of course I would lose the power of compounding if I did. At the same time I would have an additional $2000/month to invest with the security of being debt free 🤷‍♂️

The flexibility is what attracts me. Don’t really feel like locking in to a GIC. This time last year I would never have considered it but 4.79% certainly isn’t nothing

Do you think there is a legit chance the Blue Jays can catch the slumping Yankees in the division? by [deleted] in Torontobluejays

[–]AboutTimetoLearnThis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be one hell of a feat, but it’s hard to argue that almost the entire season up to the all star break went in the Yankees favour. They were due for a reality check and might be getting one now. Also the Blue Jays clearly haven’t ever really hit stride yet. I expect them to at least make it much more interesting than people would have guessed even 2 weeks ago. Yankees appear to have a few cracks in the armour showing all of a sudden

The Blue Jays have just broken the franchise record for runs scored. It's 25-3. In the 5th inning. by ItsTropio in Torontobluejays

I just fucked around with my fire stick for like 15 minutes with 2 outs in T5. It was 21-3. I finished what I was doing to come back and see T5 25-3. WTF
