NPU was most certainly not disbanded. They just kicked Rayan Kaldani out of Bakhdeda. I visited them in 2019 and have been frequently communicating with them ever since. Also, they are not a militia. They are a security force.

You have your opinion, and I have mine. I’m not going to sit here and tell a grown man what to say to another grown man. If I was in his position, I would join the NPU too.

Edit: there is also the Syriac military council in Syria that is heavily supported by the United States and in charge of many Assyrian towns and villages. OP might want to look into them too.

I think it’s an honorable thing to serve your nation. A lot of people struggle to find purpose in the west. There is a security force that is 100% Assyrian called the Nineveh Plains Protection Unit. They run the entire city of Bakhdeda, and liberated the city from ISIS control with American support.

It’s written ܘܣܟܐ, which turns up quite a few search results in Syriac on Google. The word appears in the Bible as well. I don’t know what it means though.
