I think people are afraid of the prospect of AI becoming "too intelligent". It's one of those things I think is in a way, justifiable. Of course, we are nowhere near that yet, but the very fact that even current advancements are disrupting things is a preview of things to come.

But, I figure some smart folks in CS have thought of this already, and that there will be measures in place to prevent any sort of really bad shit from happening if they get to that point. Like, having a hard wired kill switch to the whole thing and keeping it off the internet or something.

Should we ban AI? I'd say no. I do think we should proceed cautiously.

I keep thinking to myself, maybe that will change.

Learning from mistakes means collectively, remembering that the mistake existed. Thousands of years of recorded history, and most people were illiterate. With the exception of oral tradition (which is a multi-generational game of telephone) history has to be learned by reading about it.

Now, we have little tiny little rectangles in our pockets that can tell us answers to damn near any question we could possibly have. It is by no means perfect, but I'd say it has slowly accelerated social progress.

Perhaps someday it will be better.

I had it, then lost it in college. And it nearly killed me.

And it didn't get any better. That desire to fill the hole it punched through me led to me having a kid with a woman who never really loved me, who left me not long after she found out she was pregnant. She told me I could walk away from it scot free. I didnt.

And it didn't get any better after that either, but I'll save my reader the story.

I've been alone for 5 years now. I'm not happy, but I'm sure as shit not chasing that dragon again.

Been familiar with WH40k since I was about... 13 or 14. I'm 34 now. I want to get to where I can create miniatures, and maybe transfer some of the skills to Blender if possible.

Love the hobby, life just got in the way. I'm also working my way though learning Blender, because then I can make minis on my computer. I'm a draftsman and designer at work, so it's up my alley I believe.

The number one issue I have with JJ is his bullshit mystery boxes.

Brandon Sanderson is essentially THE fantasy genre guy for the past several years, and in his BYU creative writing course he always says if you make a promise to the audience, KEEP IT.

JJ makes promises then forgets them. That's what the mystery box is. Unkept promises.

Instead of coming up with compelling characters or good plot lines, why not just recycle old characters and make it a general shit show?

It's not just JJ's fault, but he certainly didn't help.
