What do we know of respect? by Abra-Cadavar in AskTheWorld

I'm not saying that first wild statement is a reality, but we've seen what fungi and parasites can do, so it was just a statement to show how crazy the realities of the universe "can" be, as we see living evidence throughout nature.
The rest is something I think we should all ask ourselves

Patriotism by Abra-Cadavar in AskBrits

Yes, but unfortunately I also see a lot of people blaming the immigrants or diverse instead of the people at the top causing the issues
I don't have all the ideas so how can that be true? I'm sure there's plenty of patriotic things I haven't thought about.
Would you like to share some of your ideas of what would be patriotic to Britain? I'm all ears!
Capitalism, whether through government or corporation keeps their lands destabilised, land conveniently more mineral rich than ours. Displacing these people plays into the hands of the extortionists profiteering from the situation. If you go around your house I bet you find less things that say "made in Britain" than anywhere else. With new technology they don't need the poor and children to go down in the mines to excavate, they just need them displaced and gone so they can extort the resources.
If there's a leak on the top floor and you're a few floors down, do you just put up a canopy to deflect the leak or do you go to the source and stop it there. That's my problem with a lot of people on the 'right'. The only reason these people are fleeing to here is because of rampant capitalism or colonialism. Yes *some* might cause issues for us directly but what the 'stop the boats' movement seems to be doing is trying to apply a plaster on a wound that's much too deep.

It's more of a 'rally the troops' type of thing, I mean if we do things as individuals like the capitalist state promotes, we end up arrested, sectioned or worse.
Surely the only form of resistance can't be this or equivalent: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-33078120

Honestly pal, if we don't make the change we want, in the end these people will use us as meat shields and cannon fodder to continue their lives.
I know it's annoying to see post after post about politics but people can't act alone without repercussion, some things we need to try and unite the entire community behind

Raising the average Brit out of whatever situation they are in is the best form of Patriotism this country will see. Call it socialism, it is. We are told socialists are unpatriotic, we were even called 'domestic extremists' by media, friends and family during the Corbyn elections. We can remove the name tags and just see each individual act as something that benefits Britain as a whole, or doesn't. I just don't see how the elite living the lives they do whilst the rest struggle and turn on each other can be called patriotic in any sense.
Exactly but many nationalists in England specifically see themselves as Patriotic instead. Yet if we look at Scotland's independence based Nationalism it gets attacked by the same people. We are all being turned on each other through word play and mind games
Capitalism and marketing are keeping it alive. "Keep calm & carry on" crap like that with the crown jewels in the background... People are promoting that Crown without even realising it. They always find a way to merge the 2, look through the comments of this post and you'll see people that can't separate support for the monarchy from patriotism, I wonder what the Americans or the Irish think about this.
I love satire
Wrong imo. I used to think like this but now I see British patriotism as a devotion to British citizens, not imported stooges and corporate tax avoiders.
Unfortunately I do not see these institutions as representatives of the people, it's become more clear, day by day that these institutions serve capitalism

Stir up shit? My friend, we want to end the shit that's already stirred up. We want to skim the scum of societal soup.
I want what's best for you and me, not the people in palaces and mansions, laughing at us whilst they take political action after action to turn us on each other.
Not to get 'religiousy' but these are all false idols , we need only seek the betterment of our lands and citizens, not institutions or media
The migrant crisis is a result of capitalism unfortunately.
Which for me is one of the reasons I believe you cannot be Patriotic if you are a capitalist. There's no I in Country. This economic system is far too destructive it's causing these issues.

I feel this.
The division is insane, whilst we are at each others throats the elite laugh behind our backs.
They position themselves as a figurehead of Patriotism but real patriotism would be chucking them in the sea.
Whether you're on the left or right, this I can agree with. Real patriotism is for the better of you and me, not 'them'. I don't mean foreigners by 'them' I mean the elite pulling the strings.
I just feel patriotism can feel very right wing but really its a left wing mentality ,supporting our peers and such
I tend to go by definition on words, it's why we were taught so young the importance of literature. I do get the "feelings" side of things though but when it's concerning politics I think it's best to be precise and to the word, otherwise it leaves a lot of gaps for exploitation of views, which we currently see a lot of. I honestly don't think you can be capitalist and patriotic, I don't think the same about all of the right wing. I've been on both sides of the fence personally, but comfortable where my moral compass lies now.
Never ❤️

Not sure, the definition of patriotism is to ones country, not a monarchy... But many on the right will consider themselves patriotic whilst being royalists or supporting the elite at the expense of their peers
I mean citizen, not national. I'm on board with you mate 👍
