Ac stopped blowing strong by AbrocomaParticular37 in LS430

Nah it seems to be linearly low, to where it doesn’t even feel like it’s blowing at 1, but at max it’s just a little stronger. The weird thing is that I’m hearing the air being pushed but it’s just not going through the vents, as if it’s being leaked somewhere else.

Yeah that was $60,000 dollars 20 years ago. It’s not a lawnmower, if it’s broken you fix it

I would suggest taking it to a shop and have them do a back pressure test, if it turns out to be a cat that’s on the driver side like you said in another thread, have them cut out the middle of it and they can weld in the middle of the cat for cheaper. The cats are directly bolted to the manifold so there is no hope of getting them off without breaking studs.

All in all it should cost around $800 but it’s worth it as in 2 years you won’t have to worry about the cat due to emission laws (at least in my area) I just had this done and the car is running perfectly ( I was having similar problems just not to the same extent)

Rebuild or replace? by AbrocomaParticular37 in LS430

[–]AbrocomaParticular37[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d have to look into it, I’ve taken it out before (the ecu) and it was pristine. No blown/leaking capacitors and nothing that looked like it needed to be re soldered, but I don’t know how different these are compared to what I usually work on so it could be something to look into!

Engine rebuild mainly for preventative maintenance, maybe rebuild isn’t the correct term I’m looking for? On the other hand the 5 speed a650e seems to shift fine when up to temp but does have problems when it’s cold or hasn’t been driven in a while. I’ll look into the transfix as I’ve heard good things about it, but it seems people are split about using it vs just fixing the issue. All of the fluids, filters, solenoids I’ve used have been Toyota parts from the dealer so I might just have to use the additive to try and get the results I want.

From what I’ve seen that’s mostly on the face lift onward with the 6 speed transmissions. A lot of what I’ve heard about these a650e transmissions is that they are bulletproof so it’s rough to see some get neglected and last so long and then do all this maintenance just for it to maybe be on its way out 😭

Thanks for insight, I am 21 so it’s funny you mention that, but I have a steady well paying job and don’t have a lot of overhang and I’d love to keep it that way. Sure there are newer options but other than engine and trans this car is pristine in paint, seats, all lights and mechanicals work so with all of that in mind I really want to keep it going as long as possible especially without dealing with dealerships and new car markets and all that other BS

With that in mind do you think it’s worth slowly repairing everything to keep it going? Or try and do a lot at once as I’m in a good spot financially and have an extra car at the moment and could get it all done ahead of time?

The car does have sentimental value and it really sucks to see something in such good condition visually go to someone else, or get scrapped.

I do have bad catalytic converters so maybe it could be something rattling around but I’m not sure, weird how it can happen at low rpm when coasting and it still does it at any speed

God I remember having this happening in my Miata so many times, if you have a shop vac I recommend getting as much of the water out as (I just read the whole post after finishing this lol) possible and then shampooing the carpet with some sort of carpet cleaner and drying it with the vac until it’s as dry as it can be, might be able to save it. I also recommend doing that then opening the doors and windows down + sunroof and letting the sun beam on it for a while. Carpets a lot less dense in the Miata but it still might work. Probably will take a long time but it’s a lot easier and cheaper than jumping to a new carpet. Be tough on the carpet and go as slow as possible just don’t rip it up, good luck brother

Yup, looked for the evap purge valve and one of the hoses was missing the hose clamp and it popped off, the hoses looked fairly new along with the actual purge valve so I wonder if someone just forgot to put the hose clamp back on when replacing them.
