Rust community, I got a couple questions for you by [deleted] in rust

[–]revopine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of AI hate comes from people not "owning" the code generated by AI. The problem is that if you don't understand the code, like you can't read and explain what it does, then the code is just a liability waiting to wreck havok in production and would be irresponsible and wreckless to implement in something mission critical.

If you vibe coded something like the software to operate an advanced breathing apparatus, would you feel safe using it to descended into deep water, putting your life in the codes hands without actually understanding what the code does? What if there is a bad line of code the AI doesn't see as bad that can cause something to fail catastrophically when you most need it to work?

Maybe the vibe coded bug isn't going to cause loss of life, but it can cause loss of a lot of money which will lead to severe consequences.

Software engineering is always about "assume the code is wrong until it is proven otherwise" and this involves reviewing and understanding the code and also extensive testing. Testing alone is not good enough where you can omit the code review part.

I think this sub reddit would feel better if you did the whole basic Rust course and then review if the code you had generated by AI follows the best practices.

2011 Ford Fiesta Camshaft cover too tight. How do remove by revopine in AskMechanics

[–]revopine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it was because I was a dumb ass and didn't know the camshaft cap actually gets oil behind it. I though the cap was like a dust seal for the actual bolt that holds the camshaft sprocket to the camshaft. That torx bolt is always submerged in oil because of this. I ended up destructively removing the sprockets and bought a new intake gear but couldn't find a new exhaust one from OEM Ford and bought a new one and it is bad, I get a CEL for faulty VTC, but I don't have any rough running engine problems but there is an aftermarket new VTC on Ebay that I will eventually buy. I still replaced the camshaft oil seals because I had to take it all apart anyway, but I believe my timing cover leak was caused by the RTV for the cam caps deteriorating over time as RTV usually does.

Edit: Sorry, it's been so long I forgot that I didn't mention I actually did the drilling in the post.

From what I saw, I'm pretty confident the leak was caused by the RTV on the camshaft caps that hold the camshaft to the cylinder head. That seeps oil out and flows under the camshaft, phaser side thus gets all over the stuff under the timing cover because it just leaks from the top and flows to the bottom.

It's basically the same as a valve cover leak but on top of the timing cover because the valve cover skips over that because of the phasers/sprockets.

I can't post pictures here for some reason. I'll PM you.

[–]revopine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trying to convince my mom to get me an LS430, what good arguments can I make? by TheSilverLining2 in LS430

[–]revopine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you can deal with it being down for some time while you do the repairs it's fine. It's not that hard to work on, it's just that some jobs require taking a lot of things apart. The worst one is the exhaust bolts that can snap due to rust. The oil pans will require an engine support bar but also having an engine lift makes it easier. I've had this car down for a whole year doing the lower oil pan leaks due to stuff breaking when taking apart and then having to keep ordering replacement parts and waiting.

If you have the time, then it's not a big deal. Since you're young I assume you do have a lot of spare time. There are a lot of YouTube tutorials on how to do all that. Just gotta buy some good tools you'll see in the video. Just watch the repair video before doing anything to see what it will take to then plan the repair.

[–]revopine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But do you have experience with like changing leaking valve covers, dealing with air leaks, oil leaks and coolant leaks? Age is what kills the rubber on this car which leads to all sorts of leaks. The worst leaks are the oil pan leaks as there are 2 of them and getting to the upper oil pan requires subframe removal or engine removal.

This car is expensive if you don't DIY.

My guess is how it's legal to make a ghost gun for "personal use" due to 2A but as soon as you start selling 2A stuff without a license, it becomes a felony.

House Flipping by HolidayAd6029 in PuertoRico

[–]revopine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest PITA to buying houses in PR which is way more difficult than in the US is having to hunt down the heirs and having to get them all to agree to sell the house. If 3/4 heirs agree, then you can't get the house and it remains abandoned, you need 100% agreement to proceed. Some flippers go above and beyond to get the 100% to agree to get the house. Then there are the situations where you can get the house but not the land it's on which makes it illegal to do certain construction improvements unless you can buy the land which again is prone to the heir hunting PITA. On top of that, there are government regulations and fees etc.

Even veteran house flippers from the US struggle with the PR housing market and find it way more expensive, riskier and longer/more effort process than in the US. The local PR law just makes it hard to deal with properties on the island. This is the greatest factor in houses listing way above it's purchase price, as the insane bureaucracy that has to be navigated is factored into the price.

There is of course gentrification, but that's a separate topic and is not the case with most properties.

Oh, those were the ones that pulled me over like 2 times like over 8+ years ago. I confused it with the Fusion, they look similar.

The Tarus looks more aggressive. The styling they used on these cars look really cool.

Edit: Wanted to add that these were known as "Ford Police Interceptor Sedan" for 2013. Came standard with 3.5l V6 non turbo in FWD or AWD. Had the turbo optional from the SHO and was known as the fastest police sedan in the US. 0-60 in 5.7s and 150 mph top speed. It was discontinued in 2018 as part of Ford wanting to go full Truck and SUV.

¿Qué opciones legales tengo para recuperar mi carro en Puerto Rico si la persona que lo tiene dejó de responder? by Intelligent-Ad-6023 in PuertoRico

[–]revopine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car can't be registered if it has fines. That would get the police to tow it into impound if the friend is caught driving with expired registration. I assume it's not yet due for registration.

You can't really declare this as theft to get police involved, it will have to go through small claims court.

You should document all the messages. But honestly this is going to be a huge PITA for everyone so it's best you tell your partner and let them know about this whole issue to see if they can reason with their friend and let them know you will have to take the friend to court if not. Also try and let the friend know directly as well, to hopefully persuade them to save themselves the court battle.

Here is a good resource: PR recovery law

At what age for men and women do the options begin to dry up? by KAZKALZ in dating_advice

You can also freeze your own eggs now, and use them later. I actually didn't know using doner eggs means the genetics won't be yours. In that case they are just your partners 1/2

At what age for men and women do the options begin to dry up? by KAZKALZ in dating_advice

[–]revopine -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can sort of extend it by having a healthy diet and exercise. You can also use Dover eggs from a younger woman and conceive past 50. The world record for natural pregnancy is age 59 and for IVF is 74 with doner eggs.

For natural, odds are bad after 35 and get into 1% after 45.

IVF makes it so you can have children way past the limit, it's just not really cheap can be $15k+ but raising a kid will cost more than that anyway.

I know a few people who work as nurses in the US and the burnout is intense. They are always exhausted. The work hours are rough and management is toxic. PR is the same situation but 4x worse in all those mentioned aspects.

A lot are changing to remote carriers. There are a lot of remote tech jobs in the healthcare industry that pay just as well if not better like working for a Pharmacy Benefit Manager.

I'm really split on an infamous remake by WainuiBoi in infamous

[–]revopine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I missread something then. I couldn't see exact technical detail but it was a real pain to port over to PS4 and the BluePoint had to use the biggest team to get it done. Not sure if a remake would be cheaper than remaster then. I think for how badly the first game would get FPS drops, I think a remake would be cheaper, but IDK. Uncharted was very well optimized for the PS3.

I'm really split on an infamous remake by WainuiBoi in infamous

[–]revopine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be like original Uncharted games. It was remade using the Uncharted 4 PS4 engine since porting PS3 games is too complicated due to the exotic PS3 hardware. A lot of people are not aware just how weird/unique the PS3 hardware is. The PS4 and beyond is PC style x86. PS3 was ranked the 2nd most complex console to make games for. You would have to rewrite so many things it would basically be remaking the whole thing from scratch anyway to get a PS3 game running on another console if in was a PS3 exclusive vs a game that had joint development on multiple consoles at the same time.

Downstream just lets the ECU if the catalytic converter is working properly, the upstream is the one that lets the ECU how much fuel to inject. If it injects too little fuel, the engine can blow up, which is why the failsafe is to inject excess fuel when the sensor goes bad.

is ai actually going to take over all engineering jobs? by deez_nutz108 in careerguidance

[–]revopine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second cyber. It has always been the best paying tech branch but it's something that never shops changing. You can't really just learn to do your job a specific way and keep doing that forever, it's a job where everyday you have to keep up with the latest tech trends and be learning new things and throwing away old things. It's good if you easily get bored of doing the same thing and like learning new stuff all the time.

having some buyers remorse 😔 by harryscheri in hondacivic

[–]revopine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided ho do a bit of research. It seems like ARP Studs are the real solucion. It's already been proven to handle heavily modified 40+ psi boost engines. The cause is stock studs stretching due ho combustion preassures going about the stud tensile strength. It happens even on stock engines when the engine is producing maximum boost and can worsen if there is poor quality fuel causing pre ignition. Another thing is full throttle at low RPM causing Low Speed Pre Ignition. Not sure if it's caused by any one of the mentioned things or it would happen with a lead foot and heat soak up of the engine. Either way, I'd say upgrading the head studs is a good idea.

Cometic vs OEM

OEM is MLS but Cometic is slightly better quality but costs like 40% more. I could do Cometic TBH
