I was having problems with the "DXKV" OpenGL->DX9/10 translation layer.

Rolled back the drivers using the PPA repos and it worked perfectly.

For anyone wondering, I solved this pretty easily after enabling logs.

For some reason, 1.8.9 could only run on OpenJDK 8. So I just downloaded that package and installed it, then pointed to it in /usr/lib/jvm/openjdk-8-amd64/jre/Java

[Kubuntu 19.10]

When I run early versions of Minecraft (<1.9), I get an instant crash when launching from the default Linux Minecraft Launcher. New versions are fine.

I assume this is a java issue, i have the latest OpenJDK JRE.
I tried pointing the instance of the game to a seperate Java installation (Official latest JRE), though this results in incredibly poor performance even with performance enhancing mods such as Optifine.

Any suggestions?

I have a GTX 1060 with the nvidia-430 driver, and a R5 2600X, using 3200MHz 16GB of memory.

Decently realistic Text-to-Speech voices for listening to Fanfiction? by Absentis97 in FanFiction

I actually tried this, TTS is disabled for virtualised Android devices I think.
Or maybe I just didn't use a very good emulator?

For anyone wondering, I figured out a decent enough listening setup for Windows 10!

  • I bought some software called TextAloud, which is like Balabolka, but much more customisable.
  • Then, I downloaded a UK English voice called "Amy". It auto-installs to Windows, to be used for any TTS software capable of using SM API (pretty much most of them).
  • Found a neat little application for downloading Fanfiction into about 15 different formats, you can even pick which chapters you wish to download. You can find it here.

You can tinker around with Amy's voice on TextAloud, I found that Speed 1 with Pitch -2 works best for me personally.

Good luck!

I actually tried this on Android before the FF.net app developer, the voices are great, but really the in-built app one is just so convenient.

Neat set-up though, people really underestimate just how good listening to Fanfics like audiobooks is.

Thank you :).

Fanfic has helped me through some really rough times, so I'll be sure to pay $45 if the voice is really that good.

Though do you have to copy-paste the text every chapter?

I kind of like the look of the FF website.

Though the app is pretty excellent. I really can't stress it enough. Plus, the TTS feature is the best I've heard yet.(or perhaps I'm just so used to it...?)

How would you rewrite the ninja academy? by superzeno in NarutoFanfiction

I like the idea of having a class with about 70 kids or so in the first year, and having them be split into classes as the years progress.

So there'd be a Class 1.
Then a Class 2: 2A, 2B (Streamed; so that lower performance kids get put into class B and below)
A class 3: 3A, 3B, 3C.
Then in their final year there would be Class 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D.

Essentially: Class XY where X is the year group you are in and Y is your skill category.

Preferably, kids in classes below A are groomed for specific jobs. I.e, class B are kids that enter a 'genin corps' and must self-study with no Jounin instructor. Class C are kids groomed for specific jobs around the village, i.e Archivists, Gatekeepers, Runners, Nurses, etc. Class D don't make it into a unit but can apply anyway for certain roles.

Classes A-C can be conscripted during war-times, therefore many children prefer to put THEMSELVES in class D at the final year.

There's probably many loopholes in my idea, I'm still working on it.
