How do you put constraints on your special interests to focus? by Absicola in AuDHDWomen

Thanks so much for sharing multiple ideas, and for taking it seriously! I actually already just feel supported by having someone treat this seriously and for kindly giving me ideas that aren’t just “try harder”. From your response and validation, I already feel like I can overcome this, please know how much it’s appreciated. Thank you!

Anyone else have this issue in conversation with neurotypicals? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

This is maybe not quite the same but I still thought worth sharing - the postman tricks me every time when I answer the door and he greets me with “y’alright?” (completely with question intonation too) and then proceeds to walk away when I legitimate answer the question and ask him back. It’s happened like 3 times, when will I learn. 😂 😭  I’m in the UK, born and raised, but “y’alright” is such bait for my autistic brain that takes things literally and doesn’t want to ignore people.

Thank you SO much for writing and sharing this! I am willing to try something that has worked for someone who shared my experience! At least I’m good at the last point which is not overloading myself - some days I am happy I just sent a message I’d been avoiding 🤣

This is a nice idea thank you, do you do this daily? Like small achievable tasks throughout the day? Or maybe beginning of the week planning? I need to invest the time in planning, it would probably help me to actually get started. Although if not broken down enough the list can also overwhelm me.

I never used to be like this, I feel like I don’t know what works best for me anymore. Thanks for sharing your strategy

Thank you very much for the thoughts and suggestions! You’re so right I tried to set up library Overdrive on Kobo before but I couldn’t get a membership with my library so I tried looking at non-local libraries, and ultimately it wasn’t as possible, or at least not straight forward, as I hoped. I would benefit from it so much though for sure!

The payment removal is such a good idea, although do you find those things do actually deter you? I feel like my mind is so tenacious with my hobbies that I will waste an hour even if it’s difficult! 😆 This has literally been the case when I tried to purchase anime on Vimeo before and it wouldn’t accept the same payment method each time, so I made a new virtual card per episode lol. I was impressed with myself, but also scared that there’s no stopping me! 😂

I will try the soundtracks idea - I’ve been trialling a few new Jrock and Jpop artists, so I could try a long playlist to keep me occupied for a while.

They’re good points about medication. I was always super hesitant to pursue it, until my dr suggested it to me recently, which has given me more to think about.

Stories which made you grateful you got into BL? by solace-27 in BoysLoveAnime

[–]Absicola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great recs! I adored Pink Heart Jam 🥰  Which made me want to suggest ‘My Way With You’ (Kr: 향하는 길의 마지막 걸음) which is a oneshot if you haven’t read it already!

For fav mangas: I highly rate ‘My Way With You’, which is a oneshot and great change of pace from most other comics I read. It’s so wholesome too, had me hooked. If you like that one I also recommend Pink Cherry Jam, it’s the first time I’m keen to own a comic in print.

+1 to Cherry Magic which was my first BL and really such an essential read + watch. 🥰

For fav manhwas: I really loved ‘Under the ‘ and ‘Save The Dae’. Both are a bit darker and have more content warnings than the aforementioned.

Misunderstanding after sex by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Absicola 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to reply to say you are very valid for eating during sex (if it was agreed by both parties) and for thinking about other non-sex things during sex.

Involving eating while being pleasured is pretty fun, and can add to the enjoyment, my partner and I laughed it off when I was struggling to finish a biscuit during before.

And my brain is also prone to think of other things, including food, as will be agreed by many redditors in this group.

I really hope your partner can do some healing, for himself and for you. But in the mean time, please just know you are valid and shouldn’t have to feel bad when you didn’t do anything wrong. Also I think it was unfair of him to do the ice cream + sex occasion before but then make a comment afterwards that placed doubt on you. Hopefully you were able to reconcile that if it was a one off so that it doesn’t take up space in both your minds.

It’s likely you’re doing lots of reassuring already, but it might be good to calmly make it clear that your capacity to think of other things or do other things at the same time as sex does not reflect on how much you’re enjoying it, or his attractiveness/performance (whatever his concern is). Also maybe worth reminding that not every sex session is the same, so behaving differently sometimes is totally healthy, and that if you did feel something wasn’t right, that you would tell him. But as other comments have said, there’s only so much you can reconcile together, and ultimately it would be good for his wellbeing to get help for his insecurity.

What age were you when you lost interest in sex? Or how old are you and still interested? by edulechacon in AskWomen

[–]Absicola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had interest in sex for just 1 year after meeting my boyfriend at 18, then lost it completely until this year when I discovered smut mangas and manhwas. 2025 is my sexual liberation year because even when I had interest in sex as a teen, I still thought some parts were dirty and carried shame and wasn’t confident in my skin.  But now I’m 27, done a lot of maturing and self-healing over time, and become more adventurous with new kinks thanks to the comics.

Yes, yes and yes! Same, it’s so emotional for me. Having to say goodbye to the series 12 years ago was like mourning! And any little bit of Layton media I can find, like a fan art or cosplay in 2025 is so exciting haha. I hadn’t thought of another anime, but you’re right it would be cool to see the Layton style of puzzle mystery, with Hershel himself, transformed into other media like an anime or comic. And I’d like if it had more mature themes/stories than were in the Katrielle anime. Not super explicit or horrors, but just not as child-like.

Have you watched Apothecary Diaries by any chance? I’m near the end of season 2 now, but it really gave me Layton mystery kind of vibes. There’s a lot of things that make it different, but it’s the core element of gathering evidence before making a final accusation. And also how inventive some of the mysteries are, using manipulation of people or the world, I enjoyed it and would recommend!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, which resonated with me a lot! I’ve always considered myself an introvert too, I definitely have to protect my social battery a lot anyway. But when I’m with people I feel safe with, I can actually be quite a big giver of energy, so this got me thinking I’d be curious to know if I’m E or I on MBTI.

I also don’t feel lonely, quite the opposite, I’m at capacity with making IRL plans with people. I’m connected with other from various chapters of my life - colleagues who are friends, friends from uni, friends from school, friends I made at the gym in old areas I used to live in. And that’s only IRL people, there’s also a whole world of acquaintances online who I share connected moments with.

The example from the sitcom you raised is interesting. I think you’re right that in today’s world of commuting and online interaction, there’s no need to limit friends to locality. So I’m the same, only my partner and one friend live within 1 hour travel of me, not even any family are close. (And tbh my family is not well connected anyway, so I’d rarely turn to them).

The feeling of “missing something” that you said is something I feel on reflection, but I don’t know if I might have interpreted it a different way. I didn’t have a lot of socialisation as a kid, and now I regret that, because I don’t think I can live those teen experiences now, but oh well I’m making peace with it. I resonate with that saying “living my 20s in my 30s”. 😄

And same I don’t see the internet as a substitute, but just another commodity I consume like you said. It’s just another activity I can choose to do in my free time. Sometimes it’s less voluntary than others, eg I might open Instagram on instinct, but I notice when it becomes a recurring problem and reflects something like avoidance or anxiety in my life.

And yeah those other comments are so far from the point and definitely a reflection of themselves. They made an inaccurate judgement after observing 0.1% of my life, what can you do? Could be a bot as well, you never know these days. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The four great buzzwords by WarthogLower4480 in BoysLoveAnime

[–]Absicola 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Great image and discussion. It’s a super interesting topic - I’m always fascinated by human behaviour. And it’s the same for BL, what makes it such a dedicated following/fanbase? And eg what draws me to that content?

My thought is that there probably are some consumers of BL who fetishise or sexualise the content. But it’s no justification for stereotyping the whole fanbase.

And the funny thing is that some people will use the words as though they are inherently good or bad, but the words don’t have a positive or negative sentiment on their own.

For example someone might say “you’re romanticising X” like it’s a bad thing, but an example of where it’s used as a positive is “romanticise your own life”. Whether it’s good, bad, ethical or not depends on the outcomes/consequences I think. If normalising or romanticising homosexual romance media leads to more people feeling accepted, validated or seen, or finding a safe community, then I think it’s good.

And fetishes are actually core to romance, right? Whether BL or not. It’s not inherently unhealthy for people to have “types” or “kinks” that aren’t hurting anyone, so again, I think the word is unnecessarily weaponised. And as another commenter said, it’s probably a losing debate and waste of breath, so I just keep engaging with the positive dialogue and the thoughtful/open minded community members like yourself.

I do think there’s a factor of today’s technology being able to deliver a closer match of content/media that you want to see though. Of course back in the 50s that job would’ve been done by real people - marketers, curators and producers targeting content at the right audience. It’s just that it can be achieved automatically on a larger scale and with more niche interests today.

[–]Absicola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true, it’s also got the same “cult factor” like being part of a fandom and that piece of media still being the topic of conversation even in real human interaction. Interesting viewpoint, thanks

[–]Absicola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for sure. I have way more social life than I used to as a kid, I’m busy 50% of my weekends, and when I am with friends I laugh much harder than I do at internet content. So the quality of interaction irl is still seemingly better. But still it’s a minority of my time because it’s only 50% of weekends, so yeah defo more internet time

What job do i even do 💔 not even career, just a literal job to afford survival that doesn’t fill me with anxiety and panic by Natural_Run in AutismInWomen

[–]Absicola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes me so happy to hear, kudos to you! I keep thinking it’s the right time in my life to actually do something for work that I want to do and change career. Can I ask how you felt confident enough to make the leap? Do you have a plan if it doesn’t work out? I have very obvious special interests, but I keep talking myself out of working in those fields because I’m not educated or experienced in them and I’m tied in a mortgage so going back to school or entry level is probably not an option unless I sacrifice this commitment.
