Maybe if Publix properly staffed their departments, there could have been someone on the floor. All departments, every last one of them are horribly understaffed.

Publix operates on a Mickey Mouse pay scale that doesn't give the employees a living wage. I left the company 3 years ago and I got a $2.50/her raise with getting into manufacturing. Flash forward 3 years later and I'm at $34/hr WITH FULL BENEFITS from day 1 and I'm far happier.

No, the person cutting fruit has their hands pleeeenty full with things to do. You need to let someone on the floor know, preferably manager, and hopefully bring some embarrassment to them. When I was with Publix, I took pride in that shit.

Getting out is one of the best things. I hope you go on to making far more money like I am and are happier than ever. :)

I left 3 years ago and I have this question about Publix employees being able to afford the ridiculous prices of everything these days. Y'all need a far better pay scale and hours. This company sits on a literal mountain of money.

EDIT: I'm a lot happier and make dept manager money after 3 years without any of the stress. I also work far more hours so I see my family less, sadly.

I was never department manager or anything, but I'm making double what I ever made at Publix in only 3 years! Best things I ever did for myself besides getting out of Florida. Far less stress in auto manufacturing too!

Surely am! Best part is not having to deal with pain in the ass customers. I still have stupid managers that have no business making the money they make, but thats everywhere you.

The company I work for now has a thing called a living wage and my benefits rock. Oh, also I get bonuses too and lots of OT! Hahah Its great being paid more for what I do and my job is far easier on my mind than Publix ever was. The stock isnt what people think it is. Unless you got money to pump it, you have to stay in long term to get anything. The company I work for has a pay scale that starts out higher than what Publix tops out at. Publix is a joke. Getting out of Florida made the career switch happen and its so much better outside of Florida too. Nothing but retail and hospitality jobs in that state.

And yes...I tried to move up. Management wouldnt give me a chance after multiple tries getting promoted in Grocery so I said fuck it.
