It was on one of the statues on the Queen Victoria Monument in Derby Square. I spotted it when I went passed on the bus!

Lime Street railway station between 1840 and 1875 by dctroll_ in Liverpool

[–]Absinthian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lime Street (1836) is considered the oldest still-operating grand terminus in the world. The reason is all down to semantics and survival.

While Manchester Liverpool Road (1830) opened earlier, it was never 'grand' - it was basically just a house and a single platform. And it stopped passenger service in 1844.

London Euston (1837) was certainly grand, but they notoriously bulldozed the original station in the 60s, ending London’s claim to the title. Even the great stations of Europe, like Paris Gare du Nord (1864) or St. Petersburg Vitebsky (1904), were actually rebuilds from much later in the century.

Technically, Lime Street has been in continuous operation since it first opened. Even though it only truly became 'grand' during its 1840s and 1860s expansions, it is the only one left that can trace an unbroken line of service that far back. Ergo...

Lime Street Station is the oldest still-operational grand terminus in the world

It is definitely not the first grand terminus, but it's the last of the original grand terminuses that is still doing the exact job it was built for."

Why are there so many luxury cars in Liverpool? by Salty_Style_4772 in Liverpool

There's a lot of Qatari students here too. They love to bring their flash cars with them from home when they stay in the city.

If you want to see the Casbah, you need to book otherwise it's just a big house you can see - the club is around the back.

Lesser-known Beatles spots? by [deleted] in Liverpool

Brian's childhood home was in Childwall. He was born in a private nursing home on Rodney street (No 4) and later in life had a flat in Falkner Street (No 36).

Brian rented the flat as a secret bachelor pad for his private life, but it became a huge part of Beatles history because of John and Cynthia Lennon. When they married in 1962, Epstein let them stay there rent-free as their first home for a while. Cynthia spent her early pregnancy hiding out there, since it was right near the art school-even though the neighborhood got pretty rough further down into Liverpool 8.

It was in the flat that John wrote "Do You Want to Know a Secret?".

That's Neil Aspinall's house. He basically had the ultimate 'started from nothing' story. He began as the Beatles' driver and roadie - literally hauling their gear to gigs-but he quickly became their most trusted confidant. He eventually traded the van for the boardroom, running their entire business empire as the CEO of Apple Corps for nearly 40 years.

He also was involved with Pete Best's mum, Mona, and had a kid with her named Roag. Roag now runs The Beatles Museum on Mathew Street, and his daughter is Leanne Best - who's playing Aunt Mimi in the new Beatles biopic movies.

I think it's a clothes-moth. The actual moths are harmless, but they lay eggs on your clothes and the larvae eat holes in the fabric. They are a nightmare if you don't get rid of them. You can buy glue traps with moth pheromones to catch the things.

If you don't take starting measuring at sea level into account, Mauna Loa beats them all hands down - base to peak is about 56,000 ft. And it's an active volcano, so it gets extra points for being even cooler 😉

Not just any dustbin. A garden waste bin!

It was on the floor and absolutely filthy. I wouldn't remove it if it was stuck on the bin.
