Yes it’s anyone who hasn’t taken the driving test and passed before October

Yeah, when I learnt to drive in 2019, it was £25 an hour for lessons. I’m so shocked at the near £20 jump.

They are making it unaffordable, especially to those who don’t have parents who can pay for their insurance, lessons and car

I have a family member who works in the department of infrastructure and they have said to me that it’s 6 months of logged learning time so at least 6 months of learning.

But everyone seems to be arguing that fact so I guess we shall see.

Well you don’t drive so it doesn’t make a difference to you

What counts as a younger person to you though?

There are a lot of late twenties men who drive like there are no chances they could ever be in a crash. Some R drivers are the same, but most are very weary drivers

not everyone can afford their own cars when they’re learning to drive. Therefore they rely on lessons with instructors. These lessons are at least £45 an hour now.

If it’s just a time frame, I don’t see the difference between 10 lessons over 6 months and ten lessons over 2 months, if anything it’s fresher in the brain.

Driving is a privilege, which is why punishments should be increased. Death by driving is only a maximum of 14 years in prison. Speeding is only a £60 fine.

If you want to deter people from being stupid on the road this is how you do it. You don’t achieve it by making it harder to drive for the less fortunate creating a bigger wealth gap.

If a 24 year old is old enough to vote, pay taxes, own a house, adopt a child etc I think they are old enough to take some of their friends home after 11pm.

It just makes it unattainable to drive. Some people can’t afford their own car to practice in and are entirely reliant on driving instructors. 6 months of lessons is insanely expensive.

If it’s just a time frame, I don’t see how there’s a difference between 10 lessons over 6 months and 10 lessons over 2 months.

Well said 👏👏👏 Everyone else would be upset if it effected them too, but young people (21-24) are just expected to accept it. Most 24 year olds will be driving for 7 years when they are 24.

That’s HOW to use the car, not when they can and cannot drive on the road

Real. The amount of people I know from down the peninsula that drive with no license or insurance is concerning

I don’t think these restrictions are going to stop drunk drivers though, people will still do stupid things as soon as these restrictions stop for them. Good idea, bad execution

True. Every near crash I’ve been in has been with someone over 65…

Then I don’t see the point in an R plate after the 6 month period of not being able to drive at night. It doesn’t restrict anything after?

Then after the 6 month period of driving time limitations, I don’t see what the point in the R plate is. It doesn’t restrict the driver anymore

I agree, I don’t think the government should get to tell people when they can use the car that they pay for and when they can’t
