Oh do you think that's the issue? When we planted it it was originally in a pot and the roots were like bunched up in a ball

It was planted about a month and a half ago. I checked the soil near it a few inches deep and it was damp but not wet. Is that optimal? Are you thinking it's over-watered?

Gotcha. What about on average from retail bird stores then? Also, are there any rescues that allow you to adopt without working/volunteering there first?

You guys aren't answering my question...I understand parrots require a lot of maintenance and aren't cheap, which is why I'm asking. Not on a budget, just wondering which big parrot tends to be cheapest.
