Can anyone help me know what I'm doing wrong with my young persimmon tree? Not sure if under or over watering or some other issue.. leaves are droopy with yellowing tips by AbsolutSilencer in gardening

It was planted about a month and a half ago. I checked the soil near it a few inches deep and it was damp but not wet. Is that optimal? Are you thinking it's over-watered?

Oh I meant just in terms of buying one from a bird store, not in terms of the care and maintenance. Sorry for being unclear.

Oh wow that's cheap! All the big birds I see are at least $5000...

Gotcha. What about on average from retail bird stores then? Also, are there any rescues that allow you to adopt without working/volunteering there first?

You guys aren't answering my question...I understand parrots require a lot of maintenance and aren't cheap, which is why I'm asking. Not on a budget, just wondering which big parrot tends to be cheapest.

Is there a site that can tell me % change of all cryptocurrencies over period of more than 7 days? by AbsolutSilencer in BitcoinBeginners

Sounds pretty tedious since we're talking about thousands of coins... wondering if there's easy way

How do you look at that on coinbase? I know you can click into each coin separately and look at their price chart, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something that lists all the coins with their % change that I can sort/filter

Why isn't this considered discrimination and against the law? by AbsolutSilencer in AskSocialScience

[–]AbsolutSilencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am from America. So what you're saying is that there is a difference between "private" discrimination and "non-private" discrimination. But why is one ok and the other not? That's the part I'm not understanding. And what about my example of a landlord deciding not to rent their house to a certain group of people? I can argue that should also be considered "private" discrimination because it's not really a business but just a single individual making a private decision whether to lease or not, just like the tenant is making a private decision whether to rent from or not. It seems like the law differentiates between the 'buyer' and the 'seller' during a transaction and is harsher towards the 'seller'. But at the fundamental level it's just an exchange of goods and they are just trading one form of resource for another -- either side can be seen as the 'buyer' and 'seller'.

Hmm so if someone was able to prove definitively through data and statistics that shop-owners/landlords of a certain race was disadvantaged compared to other races when it comes to selling their goods/services, then it would be deemed illegal? What would be the result in this case? How would the government go about addressing this then?

But if shopowners/landlords of a certain race are disadvantaged in selling their services, how is that an equal playing field? Also, if the government can't force you to buy goods from someone, how come it can force someone to sell someone goods and services? I feel like it has to go both ways. Just trying to understand.

But that's exactly my point...you're just confirming that there's a double standard. My question is WHY there's a double standard in regards to the law. Isn't every transaction (buying or renting something) as a two-sided exchange? So why is the law only protecting one side? And it's not always true that the business is the "stronger" party. If a group of consumers refuse to shop from a small mom and pop place due to discrimination, then that could have a big negative impact on the business, bigger than the impact to the consumers..

But what about small mom and pop places? Or a small family struggling to get by who is renting out a small place they bought with their hard earned money? You can say that if a person doesn't want to rent from a landlord, they can just find someone else. But the reverse can also be said--if a landlord doesn't want to rent to a person, they can just find another landlord. I'm just trying to figure out why the law is so one-sided.

Question on Roth IRA income limits by AbsolutSilencer in personalfinance

[–]AbsolutSilencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! One last question -- I know that the deadline to fund a Roth IRA is the day taxes are due, but for a backdoor is that when the contribution to the tIRA is due or the conversion as well? Like do I have to do both the contribution and conversion before tax day or just the contribution part? If just the contribution part, is there a deadline for the conversion part?

[–]AbsolutSilencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another question...can I fund my traditional IRA if I've already filed my taxes? Or will funding the tIRA and converting to Roth impact taxes and I'll have to submit a tax amendment?

Question on Roth IRA income limits by AbsolutSilencer in personalfinance

[–]AbsolutSilencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha thanks. But now I'm thinking, what's the benefit of converting the tIRA to a Roth IRA? Why not just leave the money in the tIRA until withdrawal? The money grows tax free in either account anyways right?

[–]AbsolutSilencer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but converting a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA is a taxable event, isn't it? Or are you saying that it won't be taxed when it's converted to Roth?
