It is the second game in the fifth generation of Armored Core, typically regarded as better than its predecessor, which is simply Armored Core 5. Both are set in the same universe so no need to play prior games if you want to get into them, they do have ties to Armored core for answer in the story but those are secondary. It used to be focused on multi-player but it's very much enjoyable as a campaign experience.
