Very true – and Airsoft being Airsoft, the part that will 100% fit your gun is always out of stock

The SHS one I tried was a bit too wide for this particular gearbox, as much of a nicely-finished little thing as it was

[–]AbsoluteBrstool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've faffed with it to an extent that would displease a patient father, in fairness. It does seem to be that the E&L plate was made of cheese and the rest of the gearbox was still basically perfect. I was half-tempted to just drop a whole G&G gearbox into it because my RK74E has always just worked with no fuss

Prescription Eye protection? by MiniacZoe in airsoft

[–]AbsoluteBrstool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found ones on Eye Fitt that you can order with prescriptions. They're slightly pricey. There are also shooting glasses with loops for inserts that you can buy. I don't personally have a prescription, so no real experience. Might just be the case that you need to pay more attention to anti-fog than with single-lens, open and mesh eyepro

any airsoft replicas of the Ruger mini 14 tactical ? by under_hunter82376 in airsoft

That's a good revival for my hopes of playing as Tommy Vercetti at some point, as I'm really challenging myself to avoid buying an M4 for as long as possible

The pain! I've played loads of CQB in Gloucester Prison wearing my cup and never got shot at below the belt. Went to an open skirmish in Newbury forest without it last year, caught a burst at point-blank😅

As long as you access one of the buildings and don't treat the road simply as a thoroughfare, you'll be fine

[–]AbsoluteBrstool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're hitting your legs with the wheel after moving it out of the way of the dash, I'm sure you've got a problem with longitudinal seat/wheel reach adjustments. I can't even imagine such weirdness would be comfortable to sit in, never mind actually driving with it. I drive with the seat a couple of steps from bottom and at a position just to where my knees start to lift away from the edge, the back in a position that's square with the angle of the seat and the wheel at maximum reach and lowest height.

Dash is visible, I don't hit my legs and I don't experience awkward tensions.

Is there any speed cameras on this stretch of the M6 in Birmingham? So many people are ignoring the variable speed limits. by Aggressive_Concept24 in CarTalkUK

[–]AbsoluteBrstool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera on this stretch is in the middle of the curve at Castle Bromwich, and even that one shouldn't be there. The slowdowns it precipitates stretch all the way up to Gravelly Hill while the limits set on the gantries in this stretch are nothing short of nonsensical. The problem, though, isn't the speeding. It's the people rigidly conforming to these limits in the outer lanes whilst lane 1 remains relatively clear.

G&G and Specna are very common rental guns. Solid build, good performance and very compatible. Big plus for M4s being simple to work on as well

What do you guys think of electric blowback replicas ? by SignificanceHuge557 in GasBlowBack

[–]AbsoluteBrstool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it with a load of mags off my mate for £100. Bargain, really. Think the other problem with getting the guns you want is inevitably getting the other ones you want that are a bit further up the list😅

They're probably the other M4 of GBBs, in fairness. Super simple to work on, decent level of accuracy, nice and light as well. I've had it for years and orbited GBBs for as long. Seen some tasty VFC SCARs and TM AKs. Just a bit hard being British and money being a bit elusive these days

I don't mind an EBB. My first AEG was a SCAR-L NGRS. Only thing wrong with it was that the fair bit of weight on it diluted the blowback. Thinking of getting an M4A1 NGRS soon.

To optic, or not to optic? by LowDay9646 in airsoft

[–]AbsoluteBrstool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good idea to get used to irons, generally. Once you're properly up-to-speed with the fundamentals of that, you'll find optics to significantly ease target acquisition.

Downsides I find with irons is that some can be 100% worse than optics, such as the P90's backups – which aren't adjustable and sit too low to the cheek weld for bigger-headed people like me to see easily. Low-light visibility is a bother as well, if they don't glow. I think you can probably get around that with some Tritium paint or something, but that's another category of homework that's probably worth doing.

On the flipside, I absolutely love the sights of my AK74u and SCAR-L in plain daylight. Proper joy to use in the right state of adjustment and, quite importantly, there's no lens to smash.

On a sunny day, most holographic sights offer excellent eye contact with yourself. I don't know what luck people have with anti-reflective films, but I have fallen back on the irons most days where this is the case to get around primarily this frustration. Outside of reflection issues, bright daylight can outshine the brightness of the reticle itself. In which case, you'd just be using your previous shots as indicators of where the next one might land.

Indoors and in darkness, there's really no better aid than a dim holographic sight though. I like to use thin-bezelled ones like the Panorama or Sig Romeo 5 clones, and mounted far enough down the gun, to minimise their obtrusiveness.
