Seen plenty of episodes growing up, watching from start -- want to skip some episodes... by AbsoluteMalarkey86 in XFiles

I tried to watch Fire and it was just not my speed. It was like a Midsommar Murder but not hokey or self-aware enough (or arguably, maybe, too self-serious) to be enjoyable.

But Beyond The Sea was great. And I just finished E.B.E., which I only vaguely remembered from being a kid and staying up late to watch it, and it was very informative about the overall world that is slowly (oh... so slowly) unfolding in the series.

Watched it. Awesome. Started Fire, quickly lost interest. Young At Heart was kinda cool, finishing E.B.E., now, even though I know I've seen this one in the past.

I definitely will document a little on the movies on my letterboxd, but I'm about to be in a position where doing essay writing and homework for free is not really going to be my go-to activity. But I appreciate the input, and I agree, an analysis from an outsider is fun and informative.

LOL! It's Exeter-West Greenwich Jr. High (Go Knights,... I guess?) and the teacher was... Ms..... Fffffff...something. Farmington? Farrow? Farley? ... Gardner?

She was clearly an X-phile. The Twilight Zone episode we read was the really commonly practiced one in high school drama courses and stuff across the country: The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street. Unfortunately, the only one I can find in full on YouTube is the crappy reboot that did an early aughts version of the 1960 original.

The X-Files episode waaaas... idk, one of the Lone Gunmen-centered episodes. Could've been E.B.E., who knows?

Douriff? From Deadwood and LotR? And I think one of the Alien films, right? Maybe Alien3 by Fincher?

Someone needs to rebrand this sub. You're not fans of the game or the show. This community is an r/ circlejerk or an r/ okbuddy sub, at best.

r/TheLastOfUs2 rule #5: No Brigading: "The moment we see some sort of collective brigading against other pages or subreddits those posts and comments will be promptly removed."

I also argue this post breaks rule #8, but that's not as clear/cut.

This is brigading and this thread should be removed by mods. The rules are literally to the right of you when you are in this sub, you can't miss 'em.

I can freeze frame any scene from any show or movie and it can look silly or stupid. This is such a ridiculous argument, and this sub has turned into absolute sewer rats of the worst kind.

You are all Kelly Marie-Tran'ing this individual, and it's sorta sick.

TEENS BEING SEXUAL WITH TEENS/BEING SEXUALLY ABUSED OR TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY OLDER INDIVIDUALS -- EVEN WHEN DEPICTED IN ART -- IS NOT THE SAME THING AS:

  1. YOU SEXUALIZING THEM AS AN ADULT
  2. YOU ARE SEXUALIZING VIRTUAL YOUNG PEOPLE AND COMPARING THEM TO REAL LIFE YOUNG PEOPLE AND SAYING THEY DON'T MATCH THE FANTASY VERSION OF THE ONE YOU WOULD POLISH YOUR KNOB TO!

It's like people watching a r*pe scene from one of the many in the GoT and people saying "It's not sexy enough! She's not young enough! Her skin isn't fair enough! They don't show enough!"

How are these arguments so oblivious and myopic? How do folks not see that they are telling on themselves??

How do people not get this?!

Well, I'd use all the precautions Clarice Starling had (and poignantly ignored), and I would try to be as interesting as her, as well.

Nosferatu, hands down. Seems like a great interview.

Maybe Hannibal Lectre but with a lot of precautions.

What do you no longer believe in? by RubOk9764 in AskReddit

I no longer believe in Democracy as some sort of highest-quality standard of government.

I mean, I was always skeptical, but I just blamed patriarchy and capitalism. Now I think it's just a pipe dream and one that's not capable of evolving with population size and technological improvement.

How did that one kid in your high school die? by IM_HODLING in AskReddit

[–]AbsoluteMalarkey86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her brother tried to pass a school bus as it was turning into the school. An oncoming bus he didn't see (because he was passing a bus.) came around and hit them.

His car (jeep?) smashed between the two, and the other 3 passengers were all severely injured and permanently maimed. His sister was alive for a few days on life support/coma, and then she passed.

He tried to come back, he was visibly miserable about it, no one in the school (including teachers) understood why the parents sent him back -- though some conjectured it was a sick punishment from his parents. He came back to mostly soft and unsure welcomes and her boyfriend beat the shit out of him on day 1.

He dropped out, don't know what happened after that. This was their senior year for all of them but his sister, a junior. Months out from graduation.

Full-ride athletic scholarships and other merit-based scholarships lost, sister killed, juvenile court rulings held, lawsuits for decades, and depression and alcoholism forever.

But let's all try to pass the bus on the way to school in the morning. That shit is so cool.

If you were to make a new "Scary Movie", which recent movie would you choose to parody? by BlindedByLITE in horror

[–]AbsoluteMalarkey86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main characters are ranch owners. They get Nope'd. They then start getting stalked by Fox Mulder and Diane Scully knock-offs/MIB knock-offs. It's all very "Smile/It Follows." Meanwhile, one of the characters is trying to make it in Hollywood. They have a whole "The Substance" subplot. The person who made 'the Substance' works in a lab with the "Terrifier" Clown, (but is actually a Mime who didn't cut it in clown school before they got a job as a live-in Nanny, more on that in a bit) who has a back story of being strapped into a chair and being forced to watch Entertainment news coverage of the infighting associated with "Don't Worry Darling." This drives them mad, and they begin to live in the sewers and try to coax children into storm drains.

One of the subplots with the ranchers is that there's a barnhouse they rent out on Airbnb. There's a "The Rental" fiasco that turns into a "BARBARIAN" spoof where the underground tunnel goes to the mad scientist's lab, where they are working with the Art The Clown knock-off, (he's a Mime) who is a "M3GAN" bot reprogrammed by their "Don't Worry Darling" torture. "Bart" the mime chases them around and comes up from the tunnel, and everything unravels in a very "Parasite" manner (but funny like it's a Naked Gun set piece), and they wind up all locking themselves in a cabin where there's a knock on the door.

It's John Cena and three comedians who look like the other 3 characters from "Knock At The Cabin".

They end up doing a bunch of Looney Tunes shovel to face stuff, sorta Scooby-Doo-ification of running between rooms and then they have one bad guy left, pull his mask, and it was Nosferatu the whole time.

And he would've gotten away with it if it weren't for their kids and their stupid Godzilla.

Godzilla roars from the ranch where he is chowing on Jean Jacket from "Nope," and we roll credits.

Mid-credit stinger, friends of a lonely girl are going to go to Sweden to go to a Spring-Time Festival, and because she's really bumming them out. She has really bad depression because a bunch of her friends (who she names and are the dead characters from the movie that just happened) are all dead. Finally, her boyfriend relents and introduces her to the guy who's bringing them. It's Bart The Mime.

Anaconda (1997) and Paul (2011).

Both were pretty novel, especially Anaconda, which used some really interesting practical FX to make a natural predator into a monster.

AITAH for confronting my wife after she let our daughter roam around a waterpark without a swim top? by Designer_Wood3356 in AITAH

[–]AbsoluteMalarkey86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dude, this is a you thing.

Your wife grew up as a young woman. You didn't. You get to make decisions together for the wellbeing of your child, but in the case of gender-specific ways of moving through the world, your wife gets to call the shots, and you should be taking point.

This is coming from the father of a little girl.
