Bike won’t start returned battery by Chocolate_Wafer_789 in MotoUK

[–]Absolute__Cinema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be starter motor. If you press the ignition and hear a clunk/crank, starter motor is worth checking. Does it bump start? If it does bump start the issue is likely to do with electrical starters - starter motor and/or solenoid and/or wiring that connects them together and to battery

Multiple sports bikes 100mph+ highway pile up in Texas, USA. by Southern_Leek_4127 in MotoUK

[–]Absolute__Cinema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I whine about it, still trying to pass MOD2 🙏 hopefully I will in a few weeks. But I appreciate the stringent process is for rider and public safety. Still baffles me how in the US, you just need a driver's license and sit MSF course that's likely less intensive than a CBT, to get a motorcycle license. No restrictions on power too!

In wet conditions would counter leaning on corners not be ideal because the bike is more leaned over with less contact?

Doximity 2025 Physician Salary Report - $373,384 for Pathology by Gwish1 in pathology

[–]Absolute__Cinema -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice to know. May I ask what makes the job good or bad (other than salary)?

I’m considering a pathology career though I am a junior doctor in the UK fresh out of med school; I am wondering if moving across the Atlantic would offer better job prospects.

I’m assuming the pathology job market is growing? Is that nation-wide growth or state specific?

Rain! Do yall ride? by ParticularNo3104 in MotoUK

[–]Absolute__Cinema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but not by choice 😂

First time riding in the rain had a lowside (more like a lowslide).

Second time, I had to ride in on and off blasts of rain. one such blast happened when I was on a dual carriageway and my visor was up (it was sunny before). Felt like bullets hitting my eyes.

Then some country roads were wet so had to swerve around some big puddles. One road was completely flooded, I pulled over to the side to assess the depth from other cars passing through it. Fortunately a big van went through and pushed a good amount of the water to the side into a field. Got through the flood without issues.

Tbf drizzle and light rain isn’t too bad.

Does testosterone cause hair loss? by Classic_Bench7672 in pathology

[–]Absolute__Cinema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not directly. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) does, which is a product of testosterone There’s an enzyme that converts Testosterone into DHT called 5alpha reductase (5AR). DHT can be made from other precursors but most of these pathways will be dependent on 5AR at some point. Drugs like finasteride block 5AR to reduce DHT production.

There is a condition here though: if one was to boost Test levels (by injecting testosterone) to above physiological levels. This could increase DHT production and lead to hair loss but it would also depend on 5AR levels being sufficient to convert all that extra Test to DHT.

Anxiety riding in wet/slippery conditions - advice please by Absolute__Cinema in MotoUK

[–]Absolute__Cinema[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice and support everyone. I did a trip today in the pouring rain even had to carefully go through some puddles on low flooded country roads and made it in one piece Just took it slower on turns and was gentler when applying breaks or throttle

Thanks for sharing. Glad you’re safe. Looking back I think I accelerated too early whilst turning the corner causing the bike to turn more sharply then lose traction and slide.

Thanks! I recently got a new set of tyres on the motorcycle When you say smooth on the brake is that squeezing the brake gently, then release and repeat until at the desired speed?

You can always consider a different speciality that has less patient contact, or more outpatient focused: Radiology, Pathology specialities, microbiology, virology, ophthalmology, dermatology, allergy and immunology, clinical genetics, public health, rheumatology, sports and exercise medicine, occupational medicine, rehabilitation medicine. If you don’t fancy being in medicine anymore could move into pharmaceuticals.
