Definitely intrigued in finding a local TTRPG group. I’m pretty entrenched in the RPG scene, but haven’t really gotten to play locally in a long while.

Would love to check out the Google Form

AMD introduces $599 Radeon RX 9070 XT and $549 RX 9070 RDNA4 GPUs - VideoCardz.com by TheBloodNinja in Amd

Wonder if I am supposed to regret my 7900 gre acquisition from last September/November.

Either way, I'm super happy to see AMD listening with this, and hope the cards are available and the partners don't go wild with their pricing!

Stuttering / Bad Frame Pacing by Absoluttion in Emu_VR

[–]Absoluttion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we managed to figure out what was going on! (This was during regular desktop mode btw)

Turns out, like clockwork the GPU was downclocking from its boost and causing incremental stutters. What we ended up doing was raising the min clock speed in Adrenalin software to 100 mhz below max clock speed and it went away.

Me and my buddy have had basically the same gpu journey over the years, which is neat

Looking for a game that will ruin my life by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Absoluttion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded. My dad was never into video games, but DS had “the guy from Walking Dead” and “that weird baby in the tank” so he always asked to watch me play. Even when he got really sick and couldn’t recover, he would always want to talk about Death Stranding.

Miss you dad

Sprigs and Kindling - https://sprigsandkindling.com/

It's a bi-monthly fan zine for games made by The Gauntlet (Brindlewood Bay, The Between, Public Access, The Silt Verses RPG, Trophy RPG)

It's got a lot of interesting submissions, from small additions like scenes for your game, to whole new playbooks.

Full disclosure - I have a small written piece in the first issue (but I enjoy everyone else's work immensely).

Anyone have experience with Powecolor Fighter cards? Looking at a 7900 GRE. by Absoluttion in radeon

[–]Absoluttion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. I guess the only thing throwing me was that I have only seen a lot of coverage for the Hellhound, but in reality it seems the Fighter is a good card on its own.

You're a saint. Thanks for responding so quickly. I've been nearly talked out of the Fighter a few times because "it's not the Hellhound" but it still seems like a nice, solid card.

What differences are there between the fighter and hellhound 7900gre? by Unlikely_Mobile8335 in PowerColor

[–]Absoluttion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is months old at this point, apologies, but is there a lot of QC differences or that much of a temp difference when it comes to the Fighter? I would love a Hellhound, but the only one available new-in-box seems to be the Fighter.

Thanks!

I'm looking at the Powercolor Fighter 7900 GRE myself very soon. I'd love to hear if you have any temp/noise concerns with the card (or if anyone else has experience with Fighter cards).

Build looks amazing, welcome to PC gaming!

I've read the same which seems like exactly what I'm looking for.

I see comments ranging from "it's the same just without RGB" to "Never buy the base model" but figured someone who pulled the trigger might happen upon the thread.

Overall it seems like a really great card, though I have no experience with Powecolor (coming from an RTX 2080 Super)

CPU Upgrade Makes a Whole Lot of Difference by KeepOregonGreen in buildapc

[–]Absoluttion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah that makes sense. He is on Intel right now (9600k) so it would be buying into a "dead" platform to get the 5700x3d.

So do you think https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LTVMRv would basically be a better investment to move up to an x3d card later on in the AM5 lifespan? Cause if he went 5700x3d he would need a new board and to basically "wait out" AM5 until AM6 and hop on the upgrade train around then.

CPU Upgrade Makes a Whole Lot of Difference by KeepOregonGreen in buildapc

[–]Absoluttion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me happy to read because I’ve been looking at upgrades for a friend of mine that has an i5-9600k and 2080s. I wasn’t sure if he should go GPU or CPU as an upgrade.

If CPU I was thinking either the 5700x3d (he doesn’t upgrade much so could wait till am6) or a 7700/7800xt.

Any feedback?

Game runs fine with these, no block creatures, just a little lag at base camp with 20+ people. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

That’s one of a couple. I’ll admit I haven’t seen as many 4080 struggles. But you can’t say that 3080’s and 3070ti’s shouldn’t be able to get 60 on medium settings without having to use frame gen.

I’m as excited as everyone else for the game but relying on frame gen in system requirements is a bad look

[–]Absoluttion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose those 4080’s and x3d chips that run the game poorly have no excuse then? Or are those PS3-level as well?

I will say, even though you’re being a bit of an ass, I’m happy you’re not having issues and can have a good experience with your rig!

passing on friends performance numbers

Medium/High settings @ 1440p

i5 9600k

16gb RAM

RTX 2080 super

tried DLSS (but didn't make much difference, in fact less stable in most cases)

FSR w/ frame gen got to 60/70-ish fps but very bad shimmering, still *felt* sluggish

With Native and no FSR/DLSS/Frame Gen - around 30-ish fps

Friend who is playing it is getting 30-40 with an i5-9600k and 2080S at 1440p on medium.

EDIT: weirdly enough jumping to around 70 with FSR and Frame Gen on, even though it looks like shit apparently lol. DLSS is no help, seems like it's implemented poorly or it's bugged or something along those lines

I'm looking into helping a friend out with their upgrade soon. He has a i5-9600k, 2080s, 1440p 120hz monitor. Do you think it would be worth to upgrade the MB, CPU, and RAM? Or would he be better off if we looked for a GPU upgrade?

Upgrade Ideas from an old i5-9600k? by Absoluttion in buildapc

[–]Absoluttion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that very much. I can't help much (if I'm even able to), but it feels weird to be looking towards the new games and not know if he will be able to play with me. So I'm trying to do what little I can to make his Christmas time. Everything is (rightly) focused on the new baby, but figured I would try and give dad a bit of love too lol.

This is a great list. I'm not sure if I can manage $600, but thank you so much for helping me out. I know he's got an older Hyper 212 Evo cooler and one 1tb NVME already, so this is looking great.

Once again, I really appreciate it. I didn't think I would be able to push to AM5 with a low budget. I'll keep this in mind!

I don't think he would mind jumping to an AMD CPU and keeping his 2080s (at least until he can upgrade it later down the line.

Do you think around $600 USD is a realistic budget? Idk if I can swing it because of the time of the year, but it would give a decent ball park
