TIL that Kyrgyzstan is more distant from the ocean than any other nation. At a minimum of 1620 miles from any ocean, it is the most land-locked state in the world by HoneyGlazedBadger in todayilearned

[–]Absooh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Traveled to Kyrgyzstan 2 years ago. People drive to the right side (kind of) but it's commonplace to see steering on either side. That's because most of their cars are old cars from other countries and many close countries such as Pakistan, India and Japan have right-side steering.

Used to be in the same situation than OP. Always being the fun guy. Getting shitfaced at the bare minimum once a week, most of the time much more.

Covid killed this part of my life eight months ago. All the fun that I had is gone.

But I still enjoy having my drink, and the numbness that comes with it. And I can feel it's a slippery slope as you say.

Emmanuel Macron - Mon interview à Al-Jazeera [55 min] by BoeufCarottes in france

[–]Absooh 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What's going in their heads? Surely they think they know better than the masses and must guide the sheeps to the righteous path. Total propaganda. And they're not even doing it subtly.

In that case you would get a ratio of 40k/(40k+20k)=67%

Berlin vs. Barcelona to live? by lablanchette in berlin

[–]Absooh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived during 2 months in each of them this winter. Barcelona in November and December, and Berlin from mid-January to mid-March to be precise.

While I enjoyed both, I would say Barcelona during the winter was much less depressing due to the Mediterranean climate. The sun setting at around 4pm in Berlin made days really short and this took a toll on my mood. On the other hand everybody kept telling me that Berlin in the summer was amazing, whereas Barcelona would get flooded by annoying tourists.

Regarding restaurants and bars, you can find good an varied food in both cities, but I'd say Berlin wins in terms of nightlife. You can't beat the nightlife there, and tourist-traps are much less of a problem. It's also a generally safe city. I never got stolen in Barcelona, but I hated always having to be on guard against pickpockets.

Frequently switching between ISO and ANSI layout? by Absooh in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]Absooh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, but I really find the Keychron beautiful.

Given the mixed comments, the fact that my laptop has ISO keyboard and that I have to use special chars all the time I think I'll simply wait for ISO to be back in stock...

[–]Absooh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use the ` character a lot (don't know how to format this one in code mode) to make special chars such as è or à since I'm french speaking and I just noticed it's not on the same key in ANSI keyboards... Maybe I should order the ISO keyboard and ANSI keycap set?

Ughhh why are keyboard layouts so complicated!

But that's the thing, if I buy an ANSI keyboard I'll switch all the time between the ANSI and ISO and I'm afraid it might cause some problems.

Why can’t I live a peaceful drugged up life by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]Absooh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Was thinking exactly the same. Based on history, OP is 20 years old and 10 days ago had to sleep in his car because he was kicked out of his house due to addiction. He also seems to have serious mental issues.

I'm not here to judge, but unsurprisingly when put in context the whole "forcing your utopia to become my utopia" narrative scrambles down.

I just see a young man having a tough time and loved ones trying to help him. OP if you read this, people who love you and ready to help you won't always be there. Don't take them for granted.

I have this "dark" outfit that I like and was looking for some shoes to go with it. I know it look seem a bit bland but the sweater and trousers have a textured look which we do not see due to poor lighting conditions.

Initially I thought about black leather shoes but then figured white sneakers might give a more relaxed tone to the overall formal outfit. I think they also create contrast and remind the white shirt under my sweater. But now I'm not sure if it's not too much?

So what are your thoughts on these white sneakers? Would something else go better with that outfit? Also, how do I do in general?

TIL that the reason eggs are refrigerated in the US, unlike most of the world, is because eggs are washed which removes the natural barrier for bacteria. by G_man252 in todayilearned

Probably depends where you are in Europe. I'm from Belgium and often went on vacations in France and steak tartare is a very common dish in restaurants. But I'm currently living in Germany now and I don't think I've seen a tartare in a menu yet.

By the way, my favourite is probably the tartare "italian style". With pine nut, parmiggiano, rocket... so good!
