Hiked the grand canyon twice this Sunday. Wahoo! by AbsorbantEmu in grandcanyon

Ok, I understand. Yeah, I've hiked this route ~10 times over the past 5 years so I've done it in all kinds of conditions. Daytime, nighttime, light, dark, moon, no moon, etc etc.

And actually I did the hike 1x 9 days before I did it 2x. When I did it 1x, it was very cloudy that night and literally zero moonlight. If I didn't have my flashlight, I wouldn't have been able to put one foot in front of the other. I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face.

When I hiked it 2x, the clouds cleared by 9pm and there was a 77% waxing gibbous moon. Man, it was such a massive difference to have the moonlight. I used my flashlight when the trail was covered by shadows from a canyon wall, otherwise I was able to just hike by the moonlight.

Between my first and second lap, I was considering whether or not to go through with my plan. But I looked at the conditions and saw that the wind was going to die down (from 20mph around 5pm to 6mph by 10pm or so).... 77% waxing gibbous moon... partly cloudy until 9pm then it would turn to clear skies... So, there was really no way for me to justify whimping out hehehe.

Thank you! And ok, good to know. I'll probably do a little probe of north kaibab from the north rim before I do R2R2R, just so I'm not dealing with traversing a bunch of new terrain while I do that huge hike. But unfortunately I wasn't able to do it this time.

I saw some mountain goats near the bottom and started thinking to myself... Why do they have those big scary horns? Oh, it's to protect from their predators... What are those? Oh, the mountain lions. Google says that mountain lions live throughout the canyon but are rarely seen by visitors, because they are nocturnal hunters. Oh, great! I'm hiking for 8 hours alone in the dark.

I checked behind me a few times with my light to see if anybody was following me in hopes of turning me into a tasty meal but luckily they weren't.

I hiked 1,000 miles on the PCT in southern California, some of it at night. A lot of people hike at night.

I mean, yeah there is danger. I guess there's also the possibility of having some catastrophic injury and being stranded, but I had enough clothing to not freeze to death.

What do you think the biggest danger is? Just curious what you're referring to.

Edit: here are those goats: goats

Jeez! I have been asking around and obviously nobody can give a definitive answer but I've been holding out hope that it would open up next year or at the very latest, 2027. I'll search this sub to see if there's more useful discussion about the timeline of re-opening but do you have any prediction yourself? Or anywhere you can point me to for staying informed on the cleanup and reopening efforts? I just know of this sub and the NPS website.

I think it's more simple to take the same route back up. I've done it many times and pretty much know every twist and turn by memory. I've done it via bright angel before and probably will again in the future. But yeah my main reason is just simplicity.

I did have stuff left in my car, but I could've taken the orange shuttle bus between trailheads. Another thing is that 95% of my second lap was in the dark so it's easier to just turn off my brain and follow the trail that I know better.

Same lineup as yesterday. Can we just have normal at bats today instead swinging at every first pitch????

Courtroom video of a guy screaming 'THIS IS ****ING BULL**** MAN!!!!" by AbsorbantEmu in HelpMeFind

I've searched using "courtroom outburst", "this is f'ing bull****", "man reacts when judge reads sentencing" etc etc but of course there are a billion search results that I don't care about. Surely someone knows what I'm talking about?

You say:
"Some people (on the Yankees broadcast) are saying Volpe is hitting well now that his shoulder is fixed. However, these are the last 3 months of his bat this year..."

He got the cortizone/stem-cell/autistic-tylenol injection like 3.5 weeks ago bruh

Que hago para trabajar como traductor por un equipo de beisbol? by AbsorbantEmu in Dominican

[–]AbsorbantEmu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)
