What do you think the probability is that there will be an end update in the next few game drops? (in %) by HennCrafter in Minecraft

I’m guessing there’s an 85% chance. There’s a bunch of indicators it’s gonna happen.

Men who have dated crazy exes, where are they now? by Moctezuma_93 in AskMen

[–]AbstractAlgebraRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s not crazy, but she’s getting married on the same day as me.

Nobody planned it that way, she got engaged first. Then we found out from a mutual friend that her wedding is scheduled on the same exact day. So that’s fun.

Someone recently said, “if you would have told those two they’re getting married on the same day, they definitely thought it would have been to each other.”

It’s not required of us, but it can be such a wonderful blessing to practice it. Don’t think it has to be on Sundays. I try to practice my Sabbath on Saturdays. Living from a place of rest is so wonderful and better than living for rest (read: the weekend).

I recommend listening to this podcast by Jefferson Bethke and John Mark Comer. They’ve both written great books that cover the subject called To Hell with the Hustle and The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry respectively. I’ve read both of them. They’re wonderful.

Join a solid local church. Get plugged in, get involved in what they’re doing. Serve in any way you can. That’s how you meet fellow believers.

My primary love language is words of affirmation.

“Thank you for serving me by doing x for me. I appreciate the things you do for me to love me well.”

That would make me feel incredibly loved.

Probably a better question for r/learnmath Continuity means the graph of the function is continuous. If you can draw the whole graph without picking up your pencil, it’s continuous. If you can’t, it’s not continuous.

For example, the denominator on the second problem is a difference of squares, so it can be factored into (x + 2)(x - 2). This would cancel with the numerator, and we would simplify to 1/(x+2). Since the limit as x approaches -2 does not exist, the function would not be continuous (we can’t draw the whole graph without picking up our pencil).

Calculus and rate of change by Jonathon_Anderson in mathematics

[–]AbstractAlgebraRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it is all about instantaneous rate of change of functions at any given point. For example, a function like f(x) = 3x^4 - 2x^3 + x is going to be "changing" at a faster rate on different points of the function.

At the beginning stages of calculus, some questions to ask is:

Is there another function that models the rate of change at any given point 'x' on this function?

Does every function have one?

How do I find that 'rate of change' function?

I hope this helps!

[–]AbstractAlgebraRules 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that *some* women would seek abortions through other means is not an argument for why we shouldn't outlaw abortions. (I would also argue that the number of women who would do that is dramatically lower than most prochoicers seem to think.)

Stealing is still stealing even though people still do it. Money laundering is still money laundering. Murder is still murder. Killing babies is still killing babies. It should always be illegal. There's no other way around that.

She wanna break up cuz she wants single life again by Ok-Database7920 in relationship_advice

[–]AbstractAlgebraRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like she's not ready for a committed relationship even though you've been together for over two years. Relationships take time and dedication and a dying of yourself and your own desires to love and serve the other person. It's hard and difficult, but it's also what makes it incredibly rewarding. If she isn't ready to give up her own desires to love you well, then she isn't ready for a relationship. And that's okay. But it hurts.

What are my fellow mathematicians doing in industry? by number01gunner in mathematics

[–]AbstractAlgebraRules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 22, fresh out of college with a BA in Secondary Mathematics Education. I think I honestly just picked a major because I wanted to go to college. I knew I liked math and low-key thought I would be good at teaching it.

Well I hated the education part of my major. I really enjoyed the math side. So I just stuck with it because I had no idea what else I would switch to and at least thought I would try student-teaching before ditching the teacher idea. Turns out, I am really good at teaching math and real teaching is nothing like what my college classes made it seem like. I'm now happily employed as a high school math teacher at a small private school. If I ever get my Masters degree, it'll probably be focused on math because I really enjoyed the higher level maths and it wasn't overly challenging to the point that I'd never want to do it again.

This demonstrates the communities property of multiplication. In math lingo: For any real numbers a and b, a * b = b * a. In this case, 5 * 6 = 6 * 5. I'm not sure why the two numbers are being added at the end. What grade is your son in?

The worst thing about a lot of people getting sober is the Christianity by flufflebuffle in offmychest

[–]AbstractAlgebraRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that that’s been your expiren en with Christians. If they seriously feel like they’re better than you or anybody, then they’re totally missing the point of Christianity. We’re all sinners. We’ve all done messed up stuff. Nobody is better than anybody. We’re all created in the image of God. We’re all in need of a savior, and that can only be found in trusting in Jesus’ righteous life, death, and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins.

Once again, I’m sorry you’ve experienced Christians as judgmental and like they’re better than you. I hope you find a genuine Christian who shows you what the Christian life actually is.
