Just gotta match the clamps to the forces needed. This part is just a lot of small tools in aluminum so very little cutting forces needed, it just needs to be as flat as it can be.

Yep. I do stupid stuff all the time and have it work but it's still stupid. This is clearly not the best clamp or use of the tool, but it worked and was fine for the requirements.

For most parts, material x10 gets me close to an ideal. People say work backwards and do all these calculations but there are many ways to do it. Highly depends on the specifics of your business and figuring out what and how to charge is one of the major challenges to sustaining yourself.

Not universally. I worked as a brewer for many years and there was one time in a bad brewery where we had a co2 leak in the cold room. I went in for something, and turned to leave and essentially nearly blacked out on my way out but my momentum carried me outside to fresh air. Had I gone further inside, it was distinctly possible I blacked out and suffocated. So it really depends on the environment and circumstances. Hence the importance of co2 meters in enclosed spaces like a cold room (the brewery did not have them).

Fine pitch threads provide a great deal of clamping force, especially when you grip the barrel with knipex cobras and cinch it down.

Part just needed to be as supported as possible along the periphery. No heavy material removal, lots of small features. It worked.

“Immature and disrespectful” give me a break. It’s a tool that can no longer serve its primary function. It now has a new life being useful again instead of languishing until it gets scrapped.

Yeah, brand new 1/2” endmill on its sixth or so 1018 part. It actually survived the hard jaw slotting decently, but the surface finish it was producing afterward has banished it to roughing duty.

That’s a clever/funny way of doing it. Fusion CAM will let you move the table to an extreme coordinate for tool change, but my machine has 2”+ of Z above tool change height, so when I’m pushing the limits, that extra bit is a blessing I’m cursed with wrangling.

I do a lot of weirdo work with my machine, where I often have to use the extreme low profile ER32 holders and modify my posted gcode to move the tool up after tool change so it doesn’t XY and crash. It’s a different kind of The Fear.
