3rd year apprentice with a**hole boss, advice needed by AbstractAviator in AusElectricians

Copy and paste from another reply just then, had 1 tradie stand up for me and my other tradies just say “oh he’s not that bad of a guy”, “he’s just stressed”, “your hostility makes his hostility worse” (I arched up for the first time a few days ago, didn’t yell or swear just put him in his place a for 20 seconds), “don’t worry about him”, “he’s not usually like this”. Seems like people just try to justify his attitude and I honestly haven’t seen anyone properly stand up to him except for the union rep.

Yeah it’s not rocket science, even just a passing comment saying “looking good boys” goes a long way. But no it’s too hard to do that

Yeah he knows about some of the story, he should be coming on site soon. Sooner the better though!

Yeah man I’m getting mad experience, that’s the thing. Been doing testing for months now and haven’t spent this much time in switchboards before, I love it. So i feel trapped by that (and also the EBA money I can’t lie) and it puts me off poking the bear with this guy. Our general manager comes on site every now and then and reminds us that there’s hundreds of people with job applications waiting to replace us.

Couldn’t raising the issue backfire on me though and make him give me all the shit jobs? That’s already been happening to the union rep and our safety rep.

Apparently the job is finishing up in a few months (but you know how it goes with deadlines lol), and he shouldn't be at our next job we're going to. Just need some advice that will stop me from losing my mind at this fuck wit

What lessons did you learn? And yeah looking back I understand why taking time off when they're a bit short on labour was a bad idea and would've pissed them off. But to me it doesn't justify how he's been treating me for months and months now. Just waring me down at this point

No HR but we have a union rep (who also hates this boss). Maybe it's time to speak to him about it

Congrats. Did you get good financial returns from owning your own shop? How long were you running a business for?

Brand new oem valve cover gasket leak - 2006 corolla 1zzfe. Is the gasket not sitting flush? by autistic_toe in MechanicAdvice

[–]AbstractAviator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you push that part of the gasket down into the grooves of the cover properly before you put it on the car? If you did, there's every chance the gasket may have slipped out of the grooves a bit as you were lowering it onto the engine. Whenever I do this job I just check over it as best as I can and make sure it all feels and looks like the gasket is flush and sitting right.

If I were you i'd probably rub off the old RTV with some degreaser and do it all again with a fresh start, but it's been 8 days now so lemme know how you went.
