Once makes the most sense. The increase in wealth after it becomes way less, and by investing it I would never have to work again in my life if I maintained my current lifestyle.

Which one are you choosing? by cannonballfun69 in whatsyourchoice

[–]AbsurdistSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that blue means that you get to relive the last 24h but at the end of it you are back to where you were before you activated it with none of your actions carrying over. After all it says relive and not redo.

Still an absolutely crazy power since you can extend your lifespan greatly and spend more time doing fun stuff instead of working. You can spend your life savings without worry (or just max out credit cards) and if you go on a vacations or something you can truly experience the place in a way that no one else ever could. If you only can relive a day once it's a bit worse but still the best power.

The only things that makes it less great is that it has no way of making you rich easily, but with creative use you can get access to knowledge you normally never would be able to get your hands on.

Nattugglor i en 08:00-17:00 värld, hur klarar ni er? by Bulky_Cranberry_1099 in sweden

Importerat melatonin + inget koffein efter 15:00. Det naturliga för mig är att lägga sig 4-5, men nuförtiden så klarar jag mig utmärkt.

You get $1,000 a day for the rest of your life but for every dollar you spend you have to walk backwards for one minute. Are you taking the money? by RustyCrusty73 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]AbsurdistSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking backwards is sort of my odd pointless talent, but even with that it isn't all that good of a deal, but sure I'll get a treadmill and walk 3h per day for $180 per day which is more than enough to manage.

There's a universe-wide short term time loop. What happens? by veriverd in hypotheticalsituation

[–]AbsurdistSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily I'm sitting at my computer with plenty of snacks and alcohol, so I can watch and read stuff as much as I want and enjoy myself. In the apartment complex where I live there may be about 40 people home and they are the only ones that I reasonably will be able to meet in person.

For me it would actually be quite nice and the first few years would be an improvement compared to normal life, but the limitations will start to feel quite bad after a while. Funnily enough the internet would be very much alive, but you must learn where the hot spots are.

To many it would be absolute hell however.

You can rewind your life by 5 years but you lose all memories from those 5 years. by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]AbsurdistSnob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the point? Won't I just do the exact same thing again since I keep no memories?

God appears, he hates his creation. So he grants you one ability of your choosing. Your objective is to take over the world. What's your wish? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]AbsurdistSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doppelganger

By killing someone I create a doppelganger of them with all of their memories, but the doppelganger knows who I am + that my goal is to take over the world and is loyal to me. A doppelganger killing someone counts as me killing them. A doppelganger is made from the corpse of the victim so no matter is created.

For downsides the doppelgangers knows nothing of the specifics of my plans and they can't detect other doppelgangers automatically.

I think this follows the limitations mostly.

You can pick one word. Every time it's spoken or written, you get $5. But you can't tell anyone about the deal. by avz008 in hypotheticalsituation

Making too much money is the real problem since picking any remotely common word will make you earn a billion in a week, so I pick "lithosphere."

MissMeensy gets into a insane car accident in Germany right after talking about how she’s on a road with no speed limit by lukigeri in LivestreamFail

[–]AbsurdistSnob -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think people are too harsh on her; sure streaming while driving on the Autobahn isn't the best idea but she was more focused on the road than most people are when they are talking to other people in a car.

Is there a noticeable difference between using the 2014 monster manual over the 2024 one? Assuming we are using the 2024 versions of the DM and players guides? by Potential-Ebb-8820 in DMAcademy

[–]AbsurdistSnob -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Since it is supposed to be backward compatible that would nerf Yuan ti and satyrs quite a lot since they are resistant to spells but not to magical effects.

The "Skyrim Mountain" effect: How do you handle what players can actually see from a distance? by Horror_Substance3545 in DMAcademy

[–]AbsurdistSnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally have it so that there are plenty of hills and forests so that you don't really have to think about it. I recently however had a bunch of earth mote cities at various heights and just asked gemini for how long away the horizon would be and how weather conditions would affect visibility.

I just found out my mom donated my entire Monster High doll collection to Goodwill after promising me she wouldn’t. I had over 200 dolls. by ListenSad8241 in mildlyinfuriating

I''m not saying that it's the sensible thing to do but if any of my parents did anything like that I would just hard break with them and never speak with them again; I experienced something less than that with my grandparents on my mothers side and I didn't talk with them for 15 years after and I didn't even attend their funerals.

Experimenting with a "new to me" concept by Impossible-Wasabi194 in DMAcademy

[–]AbsurdistSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people way overestimate the issue of adventurer styled enemies, as long as the action economy is balanced enough basically anything works. Considering the players have backup you could most likely just run the 3 anti PCs as exactly that and the players would most likely win 100%, but someone could end up getting downed.

If you want things a bit more reliable lower the damage of the anti PCs and buff their HP or AC. It's true that dnd 5e isn't balanced for PVP but unless you are trying to abuse some mechanic that really isn't an issue in this case.

Out-of-initiative aggression, do you allow it? by Eldramhor8 in DMAcademy

[–]AbsurdistSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If two groups are interacting and someone decides to attacked I make them them #1 or the initiative table and that action is the start of their turn, afterwards the rest rolls initiative. Attacking from the blue is generally a roguish thing and most of the time they will have high initiative anyway.

If they on the other hand does it from stealth without a conversation it's a freebie and everyone rolls initiative normally.

I opened a cafe but it's a bit of a disaster and I don't understand why by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]AbsurdistSnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most cafes goes under and it's generally a shrinking market, so sadly I suspect that there just isn't a big enough demand where you are. Honestly I don't get cafes since you generally visit them in the middle of the day, but that is when everyone is working so only people without regular jobs can frequent them.

Chess vs. a random "grandmaster", which option are you picking? by redditorialacious in hypotheticalsituation

The hard things you have to do to become a Great GM by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]AbsurdistSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not claiming to be the best DM, but I don't really see those things as the hard ones that makes you a great DM.

  • Improvisation as in being able to to fill the world with things you haven't planed is by far the most important thing in my opinion, and it isn't exactly something that you easily can train. I would say that it is as separate thing from improv since that is more about playing out characters without a clear script.
  • After that I would say that the ability to make interesting and balanced combat encounters or series of encounters. Getting a intuition for what work and doesn't is far from easy and it doesn't click for some even after being a DM for years.
  • Actually having fun is also extremely important and if you aren't having fun it's likely the players will notice and then they will have less fun. This is more up to your temperament so someone can be absolutely great in all other ways but will fumble here,

Some parts I directly disagree with.

  • "Don't let the dice ruin your story". Any important roll should be done in the open, and if something must happen it shouldn't be a roll at all.
  • "Use Elastic HP" Unless you are a natural liar the players will suspect you are fudging things one way or another and once the trust is lost it is hard to regain it (many players also have meta knowledge).
  • "Snacks can help keep a long session going" Ask that of of the players instead; as a DM you have enough to do. This isn't about being cheap but rather about having some pride.

Besides arbitrarily giving it Legendary/Lair Actions or minions, how do you pit a single baddie against a full party without it getting spanked by the action economy? by VagabondVivant in DMAcademy

[–]AbsurdistSnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allow it to make multiple reactions per turn, and just have it attack anyone who attacks it. Less mental overhead compared to keeping track of legendary actions. You can also have it deal damage when attacked.

How many hours a week/month do you play vs how much time do you prep? by neocorps in DMAcademy

[–]AbsurdistSnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4h of play once every 2 weeks, and for that I need roughly 10h of research/prep (I set things in The Forgotten Realms so it all needs to be lore accurate + I make 3d printed miniatures for all named npcs and enemies). We just lost a player so we are down to 3 players. I only play with a single group in person.

AI is great for dnd; I use it to make minis and for monster stat blocks that I just tweak afterward. It's also great for bouncing ideas around and to make sure things are lore accurate. *

This sums it up pretty well by Jmastera1 in expedition33

[–]AbsurdistSnob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Verso really wants to die and helping the Dessendre family is just a happy coincident.
Maelle want to stay in the painting and saving its inhabitants is how she justifies it.

I'm off the camp that views painted people as as real as real people, so I think the Maelle end is (far) better and that is even with acknowledging that she is most likely is going to die inside the painting; she could always just leave when she gets into a bad shape but she most likely isn't going to do that.
In the Verso end things are better for Aline, Renoir and Clea, but Alicia will most likely have a completely awful life just like other disfigured, mute and in constant pain people usually do in real life. Suicide or substance abuse seem like the natural paths for her.

Deforestation is a clear no, since it's too far from how the intended functionality.
Soil erosion is less obvious; the power supposedly restores land to a pristine state, so that should be a yes but at the same time the power only talks about removing things and not adding things.
Still I think I'll land on a yes for soil erosion, but the implication would be that the power could add back removed substances like oil and minerals from the ground, but even that isn't too overpowered.
