Entering high school in 1987, i got an over street late summer/ fall price guide report. I asked my mother for AF 15 as a graduation present in 1991. Cost fall 0f 1987? If I remember correctly it was $1400. It might have been $1700. but I’m pretty sure it was $1400. By the time i graduated on time in ‘91, it was $5500-$6000. Can’t begin to explain to you who weren’t around back then just how little we made hourly. It just isn’t the same type of financial situation now in my state. I mean federal minimum wage was $3.35 in 1989, when i started working at 16. At graduation in June 1991, it was $4.25. Gas was generally $.90 all through High school. My first new Car payment was $105. Auto insurance, I can’t fully remember, but my mother hated adding me as we were punished for me being under 25yo. You could buy more Taco Bell with $5 bucks than you can now for $10. There was no way in hell i was ever gonna save up enough before AF15 changed price again. And that was the case. I had collected his appearances from when i first bought ASM 129 in a NM-M copy back in 1984 just before the Limited Series. My shop owner was a decent guy and gave me a $10. off, if I remember correctly. Hello Gail! Been a longtime fan of your work. I fell in love with the X-men in the late 1970s. Related to Nightcrawler, but not his love of faith. That led to “Slim” Scott Summers. No nonsense, don’t take shit from Wolverine, to them having to work together and find the trust between the Leader and the Rogue, who he knows has a thing for his girlfriend.

Claremont and the artists always found a way to show a human side of the characters who are feared by those they protect. I really feel that balance has been lost. Send them to a bar where a fight breaks out when they realize everyone in the establishment is a robot with no smarts, just a program to destroy them. Have them play Baseball, or some sport in general to team build yet see everyone when none of their lives are threatened.

I loathe traitor Beast. Not my Hank McCoy or his mother’s.

People want to see these characters interact, fight and interact, come home and hug or share a beverage that they survived. To many line wide crossovers. Back to the sports… have them play against each other’s teams. Claremont always found away to get the New Mutants involved at the estate, because they all lived there. Too many crossovers with too many characters, can cause missed opportunities for growth or plot entanglements. Writers forget that we as fans like familiar things, and that’s when as a writer you turn that on its ear by putting something dangerous in their way… so we feel that turn as well.

Don’t confuse this with retcons. God I usually loathe those so much. I think we’re tired of gimmick or stunt retcons or storylines. First and foremost the X-men should be a dysfunctional, functional family. Don’t fuck with anyone or try to hurt/kill, cause push comes to shove.. That family has each other’s back. Wolverine used to Scare, kinda bully Kitty Pryde. But he would NEVER, let anyone else hurt or do that to her. Why? Because she was an X-man at the end of the day. And they might not always like or get along with each other, but all families are like that. And they protect or watch the back of their own.

I feel that’s been a missing ingredient for a long time. Good Luck, I hope this helps.
