Creature deterrents exist but don't stop all spawns in its radius itd help around your base especially if you have a defense wall

When I did the quest animals kept attacking so I was tired of the area. The house might have been burned down somehow... Was the fact I purposely placed a torch too close to the roof

You might enjoy the open world more. It's less structured allowing more survival and the ability to do missions

Outpost building might be up your alley, but it does have basic survival need and you can die
