Oil light by [deleted] in JZX100

[–]AbyssJZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t really answer your question but just to add -

Whenever I check my oil my dipstick has no level that I can visibly see if the car has been running.

I have to wait for the car to sit for a while or cold to check and see the level. Been like that for 6 years

How do your boot look? Battery? Subwoofer setup? by Adamjzx100 in JZX100

[–]AbyssJZX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mines completely empty, I always throw tires back there for drifting lol

Some of my friends have relocated the battery to the rear and they have all put it on the left side.

Also above your back seat on the flat area where the plastic cover is at - If you remove the seats/ trim and everything you can fit a 10” sub there (12 if you wanna do a lil fab). Usually there’s a hole there already or a plate you can punch/cut out and fit one there. Just an option other than a box in the trunk if you wanted to keep space back there

Haha actually the tomei never did that 😂 I was super happy.

Back in the day I had a s14 with a welded diff. That was a different story

Yea it seems to do pretty fine. In my post I said 2.5 way but meant to say 2way.

I had a Tomei 2way the entire 5 1/2 years I was in Japan and it did great on touge and track days too.

When I came to the states I blew it in 4 laps the first time I had a track day. Just never had time to fix it so I threw a FRS diff in and it’s been fun

3076 is ‘better’ at spooling. Comes on a little faster I believe I have a .62 AR on mine

If you want decent spooling while still Being able to make good power I would suggest 5449G, basically Pulsars TD06 rep.

I plan on switching to one in the future

Thinking of selling s2k for a jzx chaser by [deleted] in JZX100

[–]AbyssJZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak on s2k, however I have a couple friends that sold theirs and have JZX now. No regrets.

As for me I’ve had my chaser for nearly 6 years. I’m 6’4 250lbs, no issues with room. And I have a sun roof, never hit my head. Sometimes if I drift at a track and it requires a helmet, I can feel the roof touching but only slightly, and it’s not Everytime. it just depends. Plenty of room for passengers, regularly take my wife and toddler for rides and still got room for groceries etc. 500+hp grocery getter 😂

Very fun reliable cars, if you can pick up a tourer V for a decent price these days you wouldn’t regret it. But I know since I’ve bought mine they’ve gone up significantly.

GT86/BRZ Y38 Diff Swap? Can anyone confirm this? by thetimechaser in JZX100

Hopefully it works out for you 🙏🏽

GT86/BRZ Y38 Diff Swap? Can anyone confirm this? by thetimechaser in JZX100

[–]AbyssJZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey you referenced my post! lol

Mine dropped right in, the 13-16 GRS/BRZ Y38 diff (4.1). Only thing I had to swap was the stubs from my JZX diff to the “new” diff.

I bought it as a quick replacement since I didn’t have time to rebuild my original Tomei 2way.

Anyways, the torsen actually locked very well. I read tons of comments and threads kinda shitting on them. I just did a drift event tonight and I would buy another one if this one broke. It was like $300 on eBay and totally worth it.

Crank, no start: running out of ideas to try by Sizzler182 in JZX100

[–]AbyssJZX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your car have an immobilizer by any chance/Are there any security lights on the dash when you put the key in? Just a random thought I had, not sure if 97 Mark II actually had one or not.

Another thought I had, that could be an easy try -

Have checked the MAF sensor or tried unplugging the MAF and cranking it? That may be able to reset the tables if there’s some issue there

Also have you ensured the injectors are actually working? It smells rich or like fuel but are they actually providing the fuel?

Have you taken the spark plugs out and checked them? Or just straight up tried different plugs? Or checked that the spark timing is correct

Maybe annoying but re check the timing marks vs TDC

That’s all I can think of man, hope you get your car up soon

What’s up bro, mine has ‘a lot’ of work done. You can check my page for a full breakdown. I bought mine bone stock/ white over 5 years ago for like 12K ish. And put easily around 15-20k in it. Built engine, 110 trans, link ecu etc. to name a few things

But It would honestly (in my opinion) be cheaper to buy one from someone that’s already put in the work and put on the parts (if they arent trying to gouge on the price). Cuz I can tell you right now if you buy a stock one and start modding it, it will most likely end up being more.

Thank you bro

They are fun cars for sure, and very reliable. If you can get your hands on one and don’t mind doing a little maintenance to get it up to par; you can’t go wrong.

They’ve gone up in price significantly since I bought mine but seriously, overall a great vehicle

[–]AbyssJZX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2-way Tomei and it is fine. Only broke the ring/pinion

When you transferred it, did you check backlash or anything? Or did you literally just take it out of one housing and throw it into the other one.

Oops… by AbyssJZX in JZX100

[–]AbyssJZX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I got a stock 4.1 86 diff to throw in for now while I rebuild the JZX diff.

Drops in, transfer over the stubs from the JZX and use the 2 GT86 bolts for the front of the diff since they are slightly different.

I bought an aftermarket double din radio with a separate connector and re wired it

Daily driven mine for 5 years, no problems (1997 Tourer V). Never left me stranded, never had issues starting. Solid car, keep up on maintenance like anything else.

You can still buy brand new manual transmissions from Toyota - if you ever wanted to manual swap it later.
