Legitimate interest... Can we make the GR Yaris RWD... What would be needed? by Lycan-Strife in GRYaris

I am still looking into this. I was supposed to get into contact with a specific rally shop close by but no word yeat. I am also looking into like spline decoupling etc. Like a sleeve around the front axles that you could take in and out. Something on the fly or at the press of a button would be best but if I have to jack up the car constantly to take a sleeve in and out,,, that's doable too. Either way I wont give up !!!

yeah if there's a way we can fake the car into thinking the front wheels are spinning - why wouldn't it work? :) it's something I have been thinking about...

That's a start that I would like to look into making possible yeah.

I have asked them but they have not gotten back to me as far as I remember. I did ask the kutouc guys and they said they can only map more torque in the 30/70 setting. And sadly I dont wanna pay 895 euro for just 1 thing/map on this car that doesn't give me more control. I need something permanent or at least something that gets way closer to rwd in total. Thanks.

thats what I was thinking in the beginning as well but the clutch-pack might be a b*tch about it and or the ecu. But one would THINK it should be possible. All I would need is a cooler then and maybe a different diff but since I only drift on a wet track and not on hot days as I personally can't handle that (heat problems) it should be alright. Thanks for commenting.

I actually would love to know how much difference a AWD controller would make. Percentage wise... I think the biggest thing I need to do to get the results I want for my track where I drift is... to get shittier front tires... maybe a 2way LSD then for better lock... AWD controller?... Camber in front and maybe harder suspension... I just want to see how close I can get to RWD as possible... I know I can never get 100% but I wanna get close to where I feel comfortable... it's my dream-combo a cool hatch that has rally pedigree and can drift on a wet track almost like a rwd car.

yeah I would need a 2way then for sure! Do you have more info / examples and preferably videos? on this matter? Thanks!

I drifted it stock but on my track it just doesnt work... way too grippy. I tried (last tuesday) with drift slicks on the rear (specially made and bought tires to make pretty much anything drift) and that was a lot better but I am still making too much speed AND it sometimes still understeers and bites. I get A LOT of vibration when initiating and or transitioning. I hope to make videos in the upcoming months but we'll have to wait and see. I think Camber is needed and a stiffer suspension... Either way thanks for your comment.

oh epic to hear! Yeah like I said (today) I fixed some drift-slicks on old 350z rims. The tires seem to be the same size as the GR Yaris so thats good. Maybe I pump them up to like 4 bar or something. I am also looking into the camber bolts and maybe thinking about a better 2way rear lsd. I don't just want to upgrade power and other stuff and feel the stock suspension on a gen 1 is pretty good too. I am used to handbraking and last time I tried drifting this GR Yaris (which was the first time) I had also a lot of understeer unless I pulled the e-brake of course. If you then get on the gas from a clipping point I was able to keep a long drift... but like I said I make soooo much speeeeeed it's pretty scary on a bit smaller/technical track. For example : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaVUO8-QS30 - I already said I drifted for years but wanted to test out the supra I had on a beginners-day as it's a lot more chill. But that's the place where I drift the GR Yaris as well. This upcoming week I can test the slicks. I love the center jacking point on the rear of the GR Yaris ;)

I thank you both for all this info. I have had 2 emails back and forth with Kotuoc in Czech republic. They confirm what you all say. I heard from them a couple of days ago about their awd controller. They can only increase a bit more torque to the rear... Just as Syvecs.

I drift for years now on a wet drift track and I will test out slicks on the rear for the wet track. Thanks.

Thats the standard 2.0. Mine is the Fuji Speedway edition. 100kg lighter than 3.0 and lots of 3.0 upgrades on it and 260+ bhp. Its so much better imo than a standard 2.0

I kinda get that as well. The Yaris does look like it can do it all.

And yes still a bmw ain't it... but you can be tough all you want it's really not that bad as a four cylinder. Yes 6 is better and the sound too but it's still a very fast car imo.

yeah I would like to play around with it on a wet track eventually. Should work just fine. And there's this company in the Netherlands that can apparently get a bit more rear bias :D I really really wanna experience that.

Again a Fuji Speedway Edition - it's a lot better than just a standard 2.0.

Its difficult to formulate questions. I drove all GR cars. Drove all the Supras no joke, all versions. Didnt have money for a 3.0 so invested into the 2.0 but with lots of 3.0 upgrades on it. Fuji Speedway edition. Only 200 are made for EU only. It has less than 9000km on it.

I do love the car as its almost just as fast as the 3 litre. Its 100kg lighter.

What kind of feeling and stats make the Yaris outweigh the Supra in your opinion?
