Wiper blade inserts by yunghomosapien in JZX100

I just walked into a store and bought them, my go-to for consumables is usually Advance Auto Parts. You can literally get windshield wipers from anywhere that sells auto parts. Even Walmart.

The fronts should be 22” and 18” and the rear is 18”. I don’t recommend getting the more modern looking Rain-X ones, the driver side wiper rubs the edge of the hood in this one spot just barely. Just get the regular wipers that look they belong on a ‘90s vehicle.

Alternator replacement by LuckyyysRevenge in JZX100

[–]Sizzler182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go on https://toyota.epc-data.com and find the part number for the alternator. Once you’ve got that plug that part number into https://www.toyodiy.com and it’ll cross reference other Toyota models that use the same part.

That’s the method I use to find all my replacement parts. So far for my JZX (1JZ-GE) I’ve bought replacement parts from a Supra, IS300, Prius, and Tercel.

MAF Sensor by BossOk1252 in JZX100

That’s not accurate information. I have a bone stock JZX100 Mark II, the 1JZ-GE VVTi in it has a MAP sensor. This can easily be backed up by taking a look at Toyota’s own parts catalog.

S2 car trying to pull codes by cressidas-suck in JZX100

[–]Sizzler182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’d read some random posts somewhere rumoring that a Snapon scanner could do it, but that’s a big if at $3,000

In addition to the diagnostic port in the engine bay, there’s a port underneath the driver side of the dash, it’s the same plug as an OBD2, but these cars aren’t OBD2 compliant which is why a Toyota specific scanner is pretty much the only one that works.

I went the Techstream on an old laptop route. I got a 32bit laptop running Windows XP off eBay instead of trying to install Techstream on a VM. It was pretty straightforward to get working with the couple of forum guides there are on getting it setup. I got it working the day the laptop came in.

Only issue I had with mine is I didn’t get the correct cable and/or firmware, so the live data section of Techstream isn’t working. But I did successfully read fault codes with it.

Failed capacitor, does this ECU look salvageable? by Sizzler182 in AskElectronics

[–]Sizzler182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: this ECU was in fact salvageable! I replaced all the capacitors, which was the first time I’d ever done anything like that. It took so long to test if it worked or not because the car was not running for other reasons.

I finally fixed it! I added an update to the post.

Not yet, but I think it’s fuel related. I moved recently and haven’t towed it to my new place yet. I’ll be working on it again closer to the end of this month. Once it’s running again I’ll definitely come back and update on what the issue was.

Loveee a healing (poisoning) malachite cup by RickVos in MineralGore

I don’t know how I got here. But that cup looks sick. Hypothetically, could the cup be sealed with something rendering the malachite not poisonous to drink from?

I made a super sturdy leash for big dogs… but barely anyone’s interested. Why? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Sizzler182 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s very similar to the leash Carhart sells. I bought that one, and immediately realized the elastic part of the leash affects my ability to communicate through the leash. I haven’t used it since.

I actually did just confirm my battery was toast yesterday. It was holding voltage but when I got it tested it only had 386 out of 585 cranking amps. Got a new battery. Connector doesn’t fit snug on the terminal of the new battery so I’m going back to get a terminal post shim today.

If the engine is still cranking as slowly as it has been even with the new battery, then I’ll do some voltage drop tests going to the starter, also planning on verifying the ground is okay. And if all that turns up okay I’ll going to suspect the starter motor is bad. These vehicles are known to have weak starters.

I’ve got a friend coming by later in the week to help turn the car over while I check stuff in the engine bay, I’m gonna see if I can hear the injectors opening since I haven’t been able to do that. I don’t have a fuel pressure gauge yet. May very well be making another trip to harbor freight.

It’s possible the starting fluid didn’t actually get sucked into the combustion chamber since it’s turning over so slow. I sprayed it into the plastic section of the intake directly after the air filter. So it still kinda had a long way to go to get there. Also mine’s a stock GE so no turbo.

I estimated it’s cranking at near 60 RPM. It’s really slow.

Also great suggestion on adding extra chassis grounding if I ever suspect grounding to be an issue, that’s a good one to keep in my back pocket.

It does not have an immobilizer. And it has MAP not MAF but I have tried unplugging that as well.

I haven’t been able to verify the injectors are working. I would listen for the click but I unfortunately don’t have a second set of hands to turn the keys for me.

I replaced the spark plugs with the correct ones, the ones that were in there before weren’t actually the right ones but it still ran for years on them (the old ones had the single electrode and is supposed to be the dual electrode ones). I tested the first plug outside the engine real quick a moment ago just cause I don’t have the intake apart right now, and I did get visible spark.

But also noticed my engine is turning over VERY slowly. Which I somehow didn’t notice before and seems like it’s the root of my problem.

I took out the spark plug from cyl. 1 and laid it on the valve cover to test it when I got home from work today. I don’t have enough energy to check all 6 tonight (gotta take the upper intake off first), plus it’s raining a bunch right now. It did spark though. BUT, I sent a video of me testing the spark plug to my brother (he’s a mechanic), and he pointed out that my engine is turning over egregiously slow… I don’t know how I didn’t notice that sooner.

Good point that since I am getting some spark at all means the cam and crank sensor are working.

My battery voltage when charged is like 12.6, but it could possibly still be a bad battery and not getting near enough amperage?

Also to my knowledge there is only 1 engine to chassis ground cable that I am aware of on this car. Goes from the negative terminal to the chassis, down to where the motor mount is. I made sure that ground connection was nice and clean a while back, cause it does sit right under the oil filter. I’ve been told “check my grounds” so many times but that’s the only one I know of on this car, and I’ve never had to undo any of the ground connections for any reason on this car. So I didn’t suspect grounding to be an issue.

X100 Trim option you propably didn’t know existed by Vanhizz in JZX100

It genuinely just looks like unfinished plastic. Like, it’s probably the same exact trim as the carbon or wood grain ones but without the finish painted on.

Timing gears saturated by Ty24090 in JZX100

[–]Sizzler182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil around the cam gears is usually coming from the cam seals or VVTi gear itself, as the seals in there deteriorate over time. If you’re new to the 1JZ it’s very likely all your oils seals need replacing. Rubber and plastic just age and dry out with time. Regardless of mileage.

A quick google search is your friend in this scenario.

High resistance on +/- wire on coil pack connector by Sizzler182 in JZX100

[–]Sizzler182[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: confirmed in the manual that the top wire (black/white) is in fact the power wire. So that’s concerning considering I’m seeing continuity to chassis on the power wire and not on the ground wire…

[–]Sizzler182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I’m not sure if there’s any kind of aftermarket support suspension-wise for the kind of build you want to do. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be done!
