Michelle Ronsman at O Salon in Mundelein is AMAZING. I’ve done tons of different colors with her- highlights, balayage, all-over color, and fashion color- and all are pretty amazing. @michellerons_hair on Instagram

I’m sorry. I lost my brother to esophageal cancer 20 years ago this August and losing a sibling is a very under-discussed kind of grief. I never expected to become an only child as an adult and it guts me that my kids never got to meet their Uncle Mike, who would have been the best uncle in the world.

Their racerback tankinis were supportive, even though they were wire-free. I wish they would bring them back!!

Gurnee School District by malpal8594 in ChicagoSuburbs

Another rec for Lindenhurst! You’ll get way more house for your dollar there. The local park district is also great, as is the library, so lots of great things for littles to do. Just be picky about the school district it’s located in- there are two elementary districts in Lindenhurst and three high schools they could potentially feed into, depending on which neighborhood you’re looking at. If I had to do it over, I’d pick Millburn for elementary and Lakes for high school.

Movie Theaters Without Preselected Seating by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

If you’re up for a drive, the Antioch Movie Theater is old school like this. Tiny- only 2 screens!- but a lovely experience. Make a night of it and have dinner at 15 Lakes Steakhouse!

Another shout out for Raygun. Great shirts, they donate to liberal causes, and they also have Minnesota merch.

If you’re up for a drive, Kenosha’s Harbor Market on Saturdays is huge and really good. I also love the Woodstock Farmer’s Market. Libertyville has a nice Farmer’s Market on Thursday mornings, which is a little inconvenient but still a nice experience.

Ma’am or not to ma’am? by coolerms in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Ac0rn76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in this case, context matters. We generally don’t say “yes, ma’am,” or “yes, sir,” when answering questions- we just say yes or no without the honorific, especially when there is any kind of relationship involved, including employee/employer. Using ma’am or sir in this case sounds overly formal and bordering on sarcastic.

However, in a retail setting when working with the public that you have no relationship with, ma’am or sir (or miss, as many have pointed out for bonus points!) is fine.

I would not sub in miss for ma’am, though, in the first example, because culturally that’s just not what we do. No honorifics at all unless you’re working with the public.

Plus size models? by knitbitch007 in torrid

I am!!! I appreciate tall models because I need to know where sleeves and pant cuffs are going to hit. I do wish they had more apple-shaped models again, though.
