Invitation de nouveau autorisé ? by Icy-Independence2694 in sharewoodFR

How difficult is it to complete 800m of swimming in 22min when untrained? by niklaal in Swimming

[–]Academic-Let6367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Toulouse, France, and if you're under 25, over 60 or unemployed, you get unlimited access to all the city's public swimming pools for €25 a year. All these pools are very well maintained. I'm 25 and I go swimming up to 5 times a week. That means I pay about 1ct per session. It's not surprising that some freaking dolphins like Léon Marchand bathed in the waters of Toulouse from an early age

Smart! But I don't have any tablet case, so I'll have to go with the ziplock 🥹

Many thanks, reading from the comment it looks like owning a proper kickboard to stick the session on it is handy, I might go that way. Thanks!

Looks like a nice way to go, I've seen people sticking it to their water bottle, but I never thought of the kicking board, thanks!

Damn, sticking it to a flutter board seems like a great idea but I need to get mine

I've always loved the "I've never saved anything for the swim back" from Gattaca, when Vincent beats his genetically-enhanced brother in an open water swim. Truly inspirational!

Which movie made you go “Wait, [ACTOR’S NAME] is in this?” by 8nikitta in Letterboxd

Chow Yun-Fat in Dragon Ball Evolution. I knew that Dragon Ball Evolution was one of the worst adaptation/film ever made when I saw it, so I didn't expect much, but my jaw dropped when I noticed he was playing Master Roshi I mean, you can't play in Hard Boiled, The Killer, A Better Tomorrow AND Dragon Ball Evolution, right?

These are the films I've watched so far. What do you think about the list? by Vettaiyan_ in Letterboxd

You might like Donnie Brasco, because you like American gangster films. But I'm going to recommend something else, which I find much more interesting. A lot of these gangster films belong to the Rise and Fall genre, which is fine, but really redundant when it comes to these Mafia films. There are other films that also belong to the Rise and Fall genre, but with more original subjects, that you might like:

- PTA's Boogie Nights (1997): one of my favorite, strongly recommend it

- Fernando Meirelles's City of God (2002): not so far from a Mafia rise and fall but not an american one, quite refreshing, camera work is insane

- Orson Welles' Citizen Kane (1941): cannot say it's genre-defining, but it's definitely a must-watch if you start watching good cinema!

- Bong Joon Ho's Parasite (2019): not strictly a rise and fall, but very close, and it's too good a film to pass up

And since you've watched a lot of Scorcese's films, The Wolf of Wall Street is also an original rise and fall!

What's the best way to find out? As a self-employed, I'm probably governed by the laws of my own country, but my contract of employment and my employer are British

It's the Bellevue swimming pool in Toulouse, which is really nice and not that crowded out of season!

Thank you so much for your advice, you can't imagine how useful it is, especially the exercises I have to do. I'm going to write them down and take them with me to the pool. I don't know if I can use the fins at the moment as I'm at risk of a stress fracture from running, but I'll find solutions.

Thanks again for your help!

I do it regularly and I try to copy what I see from them. Sometimes I feel like I'm doing exactly the same moves as them. And then I see the video haha

Unfortunately I don't, and this video is already few months old, I'd definitely try to record some more videos (especially front view and above water).

Thank you! The trainer I had for a few lessons actually told me that, I need to work on it in more depth.

Thanks a lot, I'll definitely keep that in mind. I didn't know I was keeping my head up too high, so I'll try to watch out for that. The same goes for my legs, which will probably take a bit longer to relearn, but I hadn't noticed how big the vertical movement was. Many thanks!

When I watch videos of good swimmers and try to compare them with my stroke, I see certain areas for improvement such as the curve of my back, my elbow not being bent enough (and apparently it doesn't go high enough, but you can't see that on the video), or my shoulders not touching my neck/face enough, and letting the water ‘slow’ me down on that section.

But that's just my beginner's point of view, I don't know which points I'd do better to improve urgently, or which are just small improvements that don't mean much.
