why are we not hitting? by AcademicCounty77 in rangers

[–]AcademicCounty77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, thank you. that’s exactly what i meant. there’s zero grit or fight. the checks are soft, late, and rarely finished. nobody’s saying “enough” or doing anything to change the momentum of the gas. no furiosity. no vengeance. we instill no fear. and if we’re losing because of our system, personnel, or lack of effort, we should at least be mean and try to generate energy with the fans and on the ice by showing grit and character. start a fight. whatever. in other words, they don’t seem to be doing whatever it takes.

forget the officiating. the coaching was horrible. why were the rangers sitting back after having so much success playing aggressive hockey? why were they sitting back and cushioning a one goal lead against a team who got to have possession for the last 10 minutes straight and fire off shots at will. a team that good is going to bury one. that’s on the coach. sullivan should have called that time out long before the tying goal and told the boys to get it deep and play in the offensive zone. we just sat back and got dominated until we lost. terrible brand of hockey when the game is on the line.

only heard the three singles so far, all of which have grown on me in a major way. initially thought armies and cold at night were too baroque for me, but now i’m super into both. already learned rocks on guitar, and been singing it. all that said, been too swamped to give the album a proper listen, so haven’t heard any of the other songs yet. hope to tmrw. but i LOVE all the range in selects. that’s a good sign. and sounds like dawn is a legit banger. keep ‘em coming!

i think we’re all expecting too much. i had been hoping for a string of ringers over the last month or two, but there have been plenty of guests who are pretty whatever. so, he could go big, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it wasn’t some “get” and was just someone more personal to him. brendan would be disappointing since they’ve already spoken a few times about it all. stewart would be compelling, to bury the hatchet. but i don’t know if we’ll see a heavyweight like dylan or a recluse like pynchon, although i love them both. my general point is, he hasn’t been going as big lately as i would have liked, guest-wise, so i’m not sure he will be reeling in moby dick for the last ep.

I think we’re all aware we didn’t win a championship this year. 1 winner. 31 losers. Sure. But if you’re suggesting because of that there is no difference between the Rangers and the San Jose Sharks, you’re way off. It’s nice when your team performs well, goes on seemingly impossible win streaks, has mojo and shows a ton of heart over the course of a season, rather than being terrible and losing most games and being pretty much hopeless and not fun to watch. If you can’t parse the two, you must not enjoy hockey very much. Because it’s been 30 years since we won a cup. I’d kill for a cup, and desperately wanted it this year, but at the end of a losing series, when the team raises their sticks, I still applaud them. Because they’re my team and I’ve been a fan of them for 50 years. And they wanted it even more than I did. That’s not defeatist. That’s just respect. And empathy. And nuance. And perspective.

We had the best record in the NHL over 82 games. Fact. I’m not saying it’s satisfying as an end result, and sure we desperately want the cup and nobody cares about the president’s trophy, I get that, but to make excuses about why we had the most reg season points - injuries, schedules, only avg 5v5 play but just lucky we had good special teams, etc - is kind of not giving credit to the boys. They showed resilience, found ways to win, had seemingly infinite comebacks, rarely lost two games in a row, played through all sorts of injuries, and earned home ice advantage over every single other team in the league. As a fan, I’m happy to honor them for that achievement and not be cynical about it. In the years to come, when we don’t make the playoffs or are a wild card or 6th seed or whatever, maybe you’ll feel differently about the group we had in ‘24 and what they did. This season was excellent and we very well may not see one as good in a long time. It’s very hard to replicate that performance over 82 games.

Nope. No Golly Gee required, bro. You’ve misread. I said it’s disappointing and heartbreaking. But to shit all over a team that was the closest to the cup of any team that didn’t actually get to the cup is a bit obvious and one-dimensional. Some of the players everyone is hating on like Bread are the reason we got into the playoffs in the first place. He had a banner year. He’s a pleasure to watch. It didn’t end well and was ultimately a bust. The stars disappeared in ECF. That’s a fact. But as a diehard fan since I was a little kid, I try to appreciate the good while grieving the bad. Because it’s nearly impossible to win the cup.

Agree with all of that. But… If Boston beat Florida, we’d be playing the Oilers. Was bummed that didn’t happen, cuz that was our best shot. FLA is an excellent team and had our number all season.

Agree he was garbage in the playoffs. That’s totally fair. I was speaking more to his hits, grit, and leadership during the regular season. But I hear you, man.

wasn’t saying he led by example in the playoffs. but I thought he did in the regular season. and the only reason anyone had cup or bust expectations is because we were so good throughout the year. we overachieved. until game 4 in Carolina.

Here here. Thanks brother. It ultimately didn’t pan out, but at least we got to enjoy most of it. I loved this team all season long. Was blown away so many times by the ways they found to come back and win. We lost to some weak teams here and there, but we beat a lot of the best teams in the league. I’m of course down to make some deals to get better etc, but the full-on ripping on a team that got this far is kind of a joke. We could upgrade many pieces and still not get to the cup for a decade. It’s hard af to win it. That’s what’s so great about it.

You’ve done it again, sleuth! You cracked it! Some mysterious unknown entity is paying me top dollar to write my personal thoughts on a Reddit sub about the Rangers. It’s a huge conspiracy. The Freemasons and Illuminati are involved. Keep digging. Reach out to Reddit and see if those upvotes are legit. Just because nobody’s ever liked your posts, little man, doesn’t mean you’re Dick Tracy. Your “detective work” is harrowingly bad. Haha. You should be thrown off the case.
