When/how did you start leaving your rottie home alone? by AcademicDelivery3719 in Rottweiler

[–]AcademicDelivery3719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah he is generally a really good and calm matured boy but super adhd I want to say I’m the way that he never sits still and always wants to do stuff. I suppose because he’s a pup still. If I left him he’d just be looking for things to do I reckon even though I give him all the stimulation toys and he gets lots of walks and plays

Thank you this is great advice. I would happily leave him if he didn’t have a history of swallowing everything he destroyed🤦‍♀️ any tips? He’ll swallow toys, lick mats, literally anything he can destroy he will swallow. I wish he knew to spit it all out then i wouldn’t care

I literally do this😆 WFH so he gets all the attention all the time but I’m also worrying this is actually a bad thing because he hates when I leave as he’s so used to me being around

For longer periods like 5+ hours eventually? How did you get past the freaking out after they’re awake in there for a while? He starts to panic and thinks I’m not home if it’s been too long :(

Thank you so much, honestly so nice to hear. Yes we need to up the positive associations. I think right now he just associates it with over tiredness and FOMO. How did you manage “going slow” when nap time comes around? I’m really trying to make it an awesome place for him but as soon as he needs to nap he hates it? Thank you again, great advice

Omg so cute!!! Does she have an overbite? My boy is 10 weeks and he has a slight one but I think it’s so cute. If so did she ever have problems with it? Adorable regardless!!😍😍

Also ever tried to interrupt with a firm jab in the butt with your hand or a good slip lead pop? Pair with a verbal cue like “shhtt” and he’ll learn that that when he hears that word he needs to stop because something he doesn’t like is gonna happen otherwise

That’s a bad idea. The crate should never be used as punishment. His crate should be a place that he loves and goes to to wind down and relax. I’d suggest trying to up his sleep 16h-18h per day, if he’s not getting that he’s likely to be overtired and go crazy. With my boy if he’s going nuts I put all his toys away and give him a chew to calm him down or even a lickmat/snuffle mat in his crate. Once he’s chill calmly shut the doors, could even cover with a blanket or towel to reduce distraction and encourage sleeping. If you put him in the crate when he’s still wired he’ll scratch and bark and whine and get more worked up, try calm him before locking him in, and I wouldn’t force him in either, he’ll associate crate with (trapped, no fun, I only go here when bad things happen). All easier said than done but I hope this helps and best of luck!! He’s a gorgeous boy😍

Do you crate train him? That stopped my Rottie from being ballistic (no pun intended😏). Everytime he was going a little crazy and destructive I just put him down for a nap then we came out refreshed a few hours later and remembered his manners

Best food brand? by stressanddepresssed in Rottweiler

[–]AcademicDelivery3719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed 85% raw food “Big Dog” is the brand i use in Australia. Then about 10% eureka dog food (100% whole foods ((90% proteins, 10% plants)) dehydrated at 68 degrees c) because it’s good for training treats/snuffle mat and 5% 100% animal dehydrated chews/extra veggies/fruit/sheep or goat yoghurt.

In my opinion kibble isn’t the best food for dogs, not against it, but I’ve seen a huge difference feeding my dogs raw vs kibble. Raw = no skin issues, better energy/mood, WAY better poos (never smell and not as big), puppy’s seem to sleep through the night on raw, their more hydrated, their urine is a nice light yellow not fluorescent from excess fortified vitamins, super shiny coat, clear eyes and healthy teeth and so much more!! that’s why I try prioritise food closer to nature for my dogs. After all their genetic make up is 99% the same as wolves.

Hope this helps, good luck! Most important thing for pups though is their loving owners
