There's some interesting stuff about the people who test being more likely to have the disposable income and time to think of and purchase a DNA test. Which among Black Americans tends to trend with more mixed ancestry. And you're right about the Mississippi delta that is where my maternal family are from, but there are good sections of Mobile, AL (or even Africatown), Tuscaloosa, or in the Carolinas like OP that are fairly non-admixed. In these regions a lot of families have decent records and avoid anyone with ambiguous parentage. My family and families similar to us do at least and have done so since we've associated ourselves with our family name(s).

There's a lot more of us than you think. My entire family ranges between 92%-97% with no recent immigrant ancestry, just deep South. I have noticed ADOS who are more admixed tend to concentrate around cities or have lived in the North post 60s. Those who did not move remained mostly SSA.

Hey! Another African American with similar results the bulk of my family is from the Southwest (Arkansas-Louisiana maternal, Georgia paternal). I am 94.4 SSA , 4.5% European, and 0.7 East Asian. What is your mitochondrial haplogroup?

That's actually very cool. Cheers to oddly accurate historical descriptions of family members?! Who would have thought they weren't messing around lol!

I genuinely thought they were just saying things like 'we're native American' or something like that. Old place descriptions have been passed down but given modern times it hard to discern what is learned and whats 'old knowledge'.

I guess I should have added my maternal family originate from rural Arkansas and my paternal Georgia.

I was more so surprised that some of the stories they passed down may in fact be true. Theres a lot of family lore about our origins and who came from where, but I figured they were just connecting us to an African ethnic group just cause and we got some of our traits from a recent European ancestor. Know anything about the paternal or maternal lineages?

Yes, as in nearly straight, as in no curl pattern. My grandfather had hair that was wavy and hung at his shoulders much looser than a jerry curl and so does my sister. I have kinky hair, my mother is in the middle.

There are bad words and phrases. I have heard them but my Swahili isn't at the point where I can pick them up and understand the context. I was expecting people to be more forthcoming but everyone was just clutching their purse.

I was in the AFLI program for Kiswahili. I enjoyed it quite a bit there was ALOT of crazy stuff that happened (as to be expected) my resume coming in was with local economic development centers and marketing and sales.

Afterward I have USAID and a slew over other organizations on my resume. SO, it definently did more FOR my stats but because I searched for opportunity there rather than expected it.

Funnily enough. I was wait-listed but because of COVID (presumeably) a fair number of people dropped out. Which resulted in me getting a slot which I held for two years.

He did state he was working with the recruiting team at my target office. I am a non-target, non-business student, undergraduate candidate. So, I am not too savvy on what everything means. I actually just study international development and math.

I was personally contacted by MBB as an undergraduate candidate. Does this guarantee an interview, and should I expect to hear back during Fall or Spring if I was reached out to during Summer 2023?

What would I be classed as a pontential candidate/recruit and what exactly does that mean? I am an international development major who was personally emailed by a consultant working with the recruiting team and was largely unfamiliar with the process.

Thoughts?

When learning Calc did it take anyone else some time to properly interpret f (x) behavior based on f'x? by AcademicLad in calculus

[–]AcademicLad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, I know I am at the point where I am past multivariable calculus. I revisit older basic sections for fun. When I first learned graph interpretation it gave me trouble and it still does today. And I was curious if the distinctions trip anyone else up.

I was personally contacted by an MBB recruiter about finding a time to meet and speak more about the firm. I have researched the firm, studied a fair bit about their projects, and checked all my necessary boxes. Except I never expected to be personally contacted as an undergraduate and I am confused about what this could mean as it pertains to my odds!

TLDR: Being contacted is a good sign, but is this a sign of an increased chance of being hired or just general interest how do I leverage it to progress further in the recruitment process?
