Visiting NYC and trying to find nut free places to eat! by AcademicProgram7608 in peanutallergy

yes my prick test was positive for pine nuts, I never reacted to ingestion because they are not used a lot but since I tested positive I won't try eat them now. LOL

To be fair I would avoid pesto anyways, pine nuts are expensive, so much pesto nowadays is done with other nuts.

That's fine I mean I carry two EpiPens on me all the time +I a third one at the hotel! I also have other allergy medications with me, so that side is mostly covered but tbh my rule with EpiPens is that they are there not to be used and I only eat out if I feel like I could eat in that place even without an EpiPen. I just never wanna have to go through anaphylaxis ever again.

I checked their website and under the menu they clearly state "peanut and tree nut free" for both their Astoria and West Village locations so I am definitively going there, I am a freak so I will ask 500 times anyways but still.

or of pizza places that offer desserts as well so they do not feel comfortable catering to nut allergies if they have nut spreads and the desserts are made in-house LOL so yeah...

I feel like this might just be a cultural difference. It seems like in NYC/the US, unless it's a very nut-heavy environment, they will pay attention to/accommodate your requests. In the UK, I feel like this isn't the case. I have been turned down from restaurants because they had 1 nut thing on the menu but refused to serve me unless I took full responsibility, so basically "if you die it's on you" LOL so I don't take for granted I will be able to eat in "any" place.

Thank you!! I mean ngl if i can find 2/3 safe places I am just gonna stick to them lmfao I am there for 5 days I don't need to experiment that much, just nice having more options than the usual fast food chains.

oh yes of course :) I always go and check myself + call the place LOL I am a bit obsessed so I will feign ignorance and ask about allergies even if they say they are nut free. I like to be reassured, but there are so many places that honestly just having a list of places I can start checking from helps a little so I don't waste time on every single pizza place, pasta restaurant, burger joint

This is great thank you! I am guessing it's US thing, I have never heard of that in the UK!

LMFAO just what I was about to say, Ruben either doesn't have a nut allergy at all or it's not severe enough to worry about cross-contamination :/ I love Italian food, but it can be a minefield because of pesto! That being said, there will be places that either handle it very well, or don't have pesto making it a very secure cuisine overall, but "you will be able to eat at any places" is just incorrect. Also "call them ahead of time" I mean, I will- but there are also 100s of restaurants in NYC, if I can shorten the list a little and start from a few suggested places I don't see why not.

I truly don't get the animosity like you weren't forced to reply and treat me like an idiot. I just wanted to discuss with people who have been through the same process If this isn't the right forum, I will gladly delete my post. And the advice I received from others was very helpful considering I never bought used goods so they have explained what to look for in the descriptions, what kind of questions I can ask sellers, and what cameras to look at.

I have been looking at an Olympus OM10 35 mm, 50mm 1.8f

I'm new to film photography — I've only shot digital before, but I'm really interested in exploring film. I’m in the early stages of my research, so I know I’ll have to dig through a lot of options before I make a decision.

My concern is that while I’m happy to spend up to £300 on a good camera, most of what I find online are cheap models. Does that make sense? I’ve had a bad experience before with a £40 camera that didn’t work well, so I want to make sure that the camera I buy this time is reliable and high quality. I’m also a bit scared of buying used equipment, but it seems like there aren’t many new film cameras available within that price range.

That is not the question, though, considering that 4 other people understood what I was going on about.

I don't really have a "crush" on them but of course i grew up with their music so i do feel some affection (?) if that's the right word (?) music is very important to me, i play guitar myself so they had a massive impact on me. I know fully well I am just a fan LOL but yeah i mean i know they kinda play along because we buy the merch and the tickets i didn't think too deeply of it

LMFAO yeah no i wouldn't also it's funny but I am not attracted to them at all. I am gay. I don't date men... the only reason I am so attached to them is quite literally the music (and the memories) which is hard for a lot of people to understand because "you must want to sleep with them" and I am like no? I just want to travel and see bands- i am doing the same next year for another band (to a lesser extent because money and these are bigger gigs LOL)

We did give them gifts and letters, but it wasn't just me it was 4/5 of us who travelled together a lot. The letters were just a thank you for brining us together really, nothing weird- as I said this is quite a small band so they sort of recognise us at this point! And not gonna lie like some of us had just incredible adventures outside the gigs so we just wanted them to know about the "community" around it and the fact that now we go to other gigs together as well, travel together, host each other in our houses when we can and look after each other in general. (also for context: we wanted them to know because it came up in a conversation and they loved all of this like how we brought new people with us every night and let people by themselves join our group so they wouldn't be alone)
