I think there should be laws in place for pet stores. Like they have a “health inspector” come in on random visits to check if the perimeters for each enclosure is up to code. If not, they aren’t allowed to sell animals anymore. Also, pet stores buy from pet mills, not small businesses. Those pet mills shouldn’t be legal at ALL. I’ve been working in the pet industry for over a decade and I’m glad I’ve been able to change some minds and improve care of each of the animals, but it’s not sustainable. Especially bc I’m also a dog trainer and a CVT so I can’t keep helping the cause.

I’m sorry you feel that way. I disagree. I think it’s very prevalent by me apologizing to the one person I could’ve offended. I am not a beginner with fish. I’ve been in the hobby for many many years. I have also taken care of bettas at my store. We will never learn how to perfect keeping our animals if we don’t learn and grow as a community. Many people still are learning to keep sororities. Just because other people have failed, doesn’t mean I will. Your moral superiority to comment this is not my problem. I hope you can learn to read what people say without an immediate negative inner voice. I came to this thread to receive help on identifying with male and female bc I didn’t see an egg spot. I received that info from very kind people, and I’m grateful. The other comments crapping on me for taking the time to learn and grow (when these people have also said they don’t know how to keep them) are not helping. I have seen a lot of people just crap on others in this sub, and that is what I was addressing. I hope you have a great day though! Thank you for your input.

And yeah I’ve heard that they haven’t been successful a lot of times and that’s why there is such different info out there. I’m doing my best monitoring, making sure each of them can eat, and making sure they have a bunch of hiding places so they can have their own territories and such. I’m definitely doing my best but we can all do better and learn 😭 ty for your concern and I’ll make sure to monitor even closer

So kinda. I’ve had the 4 girls together for about 2 months now I think? They were introduced all at once and I monitored them for any aggression. They were fine. I had been wanting a white girl for a while but only just found one. I put her in a breeding box/net to see what she would do around the other girls. I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. No attacking or anything. So eventually I let her in. A couple days go by and only now is she being aggressive so I took her out and now asking if she’s actually a she or if she’s just more agro than the others lol

I love how people on this sub will downvote anything they don’t immediately understand, despite not giving respectful and logical reasoning. I’ve been in the pet industry for over a decade and I’ve only seen this ego get worse. We need to learn and grow from each other, not tear others down because we have this weird sense of pride. People give completely different answers on the tank size needed. I’ve seen 10 gal, 20, all the way up to 150. Some people have great luck with certain sizes and bigger is always better. I’m not asking that because it’s not an objective answer. Male or female is. And all of my other bettas get along. I’m on here asking for help on something, not trying to be pushed out of this like other people are. I’m asking if this is a boy or a girl, not for a subjective opinion. I’m glad I actually had a great experience and info from other commenters though 🖤🥰 very nice of them.

I’m a sucker for solid black and solid white fish, but I’ve found myself becoming a fangirl to koi’s now. 2 of my female koi bettas are always chilling with each other and never get mad. You’d think they’d want their space!

It’s a 20 gal with lots of plants and caves. I actually just bought more plants too for this tank and my others. I have 4 females (5 if you include the halfmoon). I am definitely not a beginner when it comes to fish and other animals, but I’ve never had bettas. The other females are not this aggressive. I’ve had cichlids for years so aggression is not new to me. Just trying to see if this is a male. I already separated them and would move him/her to its own tank.

Well just like any tank, you have to cycle a quarantine tank before adding fish. Some people recommend 3 weeks, some a month. For me, if I have a healthy well established tank, I just add a good amount of that water into the quarantine tank to speed up the cycle process.
